As a huge fan of vegetarian/vegan pastry-based products, including those produced by a certain baker local to myself (other brands are available of course), is it worth the epic round trip from Tyneside to sample the said delicacies!? :laugh_mini:

Seriously, there will be a non-meat pasty option, but there will also be meat pasty and pie options.

As to whether the trip will be worth it, others have made the journey from your area in the past, and some much further. I am biased, of course, but the event has gone from strength to strength since I stopped organising it, so yes, it's definitely worth the trip in my view, especially if you combine it with a weekend (perhaps a long weekend) in Swagonia, sampling other local attractions (bgman - no comments, please) and fayre, etc.

Stubby will have to comment on the rum, but the venue really isn't licenced, as far as I know, for that type of beverage.

But if Spams doesn't get his rum, it might yet be a rum do, who knows, these 'Z' gauge modellers are just so unpredictable.

Perhaps the most distant visitor was from Melbourne, but as he is Cornish perhaps he could detact the genuine article from that distance. He also brought a layout with him.

Thanks CK.

I will definitely look into the possibility of making the trip as it looks like a fantastic event. I may be able to tie it in to visiting relatives in the deep south.

I am a fan of a meaty-based pastry treat too..... so would be happy to partake in both. Obviously all in the name of sampling your West Country goodies and reporting back to the relevant authorities up here. Cake is always appreciated too! :derisive:

Spams will probably claim the rum is medicinal...

As long as he drinks it this time and doesn't rub it in............

You will also have that most singular honour of being insulted by Bgman in the Middevonian language, not something to be momentarily sniffed at either.

But don't accept any of his rum, should he offer you any.

Ha ha :laugh_mini: If I abused him back, I have no doubt he will fail to understand a word I say in my garbled Geordie!

Warning heeded, I'll steer clear of the infamous gin....

Ha ha ha   Hadaway man, stop being such a worky-ticket!

I could bring some local Geordie delicacies to supplement your West Country fare if you like? Fancy a stottie cake, some ham and pease pudding, pan haggerty, a saveloy dip or a singin' hinny!? :derisive:

Of course! I imagine the climate in your part of the world will be postively Mediterranean compared to the frozen North East. I haven't got much of a beer belly to be honest but I will work on that on the day by indulging in pasties and cake! :laugh_mini:

Haven't had a stottie for years.

Used to enjoy them stuffed with thin sliced beef, onions & gravy.

Stottie, pasty, cake & trains all on the same day  -  it's getting better all the time  .  .  .  .

What about a shiny yellow?

(asking on behalf of CK, honest)

Is the objection the gold badge or that they are wearing nothing else??

I thought that was just the girls...

That's in the Bigg Market on a Friday night, in December obviously, rather than St James on a Saturday afternoon :laugh_mini:

You cannot beat a hot stottie dip with beef and drenched on onion gravy..... like manna from heaven! When I had a spell living in Suffolk I used to always go back from a trip home with a bag of stotties and supply of pease pudding!

It all sounds like a combination for a prize winning day doesn't it!

Oh you're missing out...

Stubby, very sorry for causing the thread to drift off course. Please feel free to clamp down on the silliness and return to the trains!

Don't worry too much about bringing specialist Geordie fayre for Bgman, his tastes are pretty basic. A small fishy in a little dishy will do just fine for him, ta.
