Funnily enough, where we've just been for a short holiday (hence the near radio silence since Good Friday) has one of those. I though it was the only train on the island but when we got back today the ever-reliable (?) Wikipedia told me that between the wars there had been a narrow-gauge line about 30 km long (WP said 3 ft gauge but given the history of the place metre-gauge would be more likely). A loco is plinthed at the former Northern terminus.

Can you guess where we were? Do you want to? Do you care?

Jersey?

Last time I looked that wasn't an island!

A lot further South and a lot further East. The island is, just, officially in the Tropics.

Not Flinder's Island then, perhaps New Caledonia ?

Give that man a coconut (the place is full of 'em. The only town I've ever been to where the main square is called Coconut Square).

The old railway ran from the capital, Noumea, to Paita, crossing three big rivers and passing through two tunnels on the way. After running from 1914 to 1940 it was later used briefly by the American forces as a supply route.

I packed the Forrest Mobile Wagon Works last night, ready for Sunday.  I'll be bringing a varied mixture of kit and modified RTR wagons along with me; a few finished,  but many more projects that are a work in progress.

That's a bit organised Mark.

How much room so you need in the car? 7mm buildings seem to take up a lot of space!

Upon which the moon shines bright according to the late Adge Cutler

Gents, Pasty-wallahs and others present.  Personal circumstances have determined that I shall have to forego the ride on the WSR but I shall join you at Bishop's Lydeard around tea-time.  The good lady is far from well and has to be escorted to my sister's first in order that she can stay the night and be monitored.  She is too anxious to stay home alone as things are.

And another thing.  Notwork Fail are digging up something important this weekend and there are no trains to the Hill of Strawberries.  "What about replacement buses?" I hear you ask.  They are advertised but the roads through the village are too narrow and our delightfully pretty trees are too large and low for them to pass.  They therefore pass elsewhere and do not serve out locality running direct from Teddington to Twickenham.  The NR journey planner offered me several curious options for reaching Taunton of which the fastest in terms of journey time was, curiously, by bus to Richmond, train to Willesden Junction, tube to Paddington thence train.  I shall use my Standard Plan B which is to stride up to Fulwell station and board a train to Waterloo before taking the northbound Bakelite Railway to Paddington.

I'm sure I'm not alone in wishing Sharon well, Rick.

I'll bring my largest and heaviest toolbox, that should help compress your 7mm buildings down to a more manageable size.

The weather forecast for the weekend looks perfect,  partly cloudy on Saturday afternoon and light cloud on Sunday.

So bring plenty of suncream and your wellies!!

(Edit - cue the Welsh jokes...)

Hi Stu and others. Looking at the BBC Weather online today the forecasts now seem to be a lot less optimistic with rain around all weekend :(

Bring waterproof suncream.....

Saturday appears to be the dodgy weather day for Wales and the West with lots of wet stuff and windy things going on.

Therefore one's shirt will be tucked into one's underpants.

On a positive, Bleat is almost ready to go but I have just made a horse's arse of the back scene.

Therefore I have stepped away for five.

Rob.

No1 daughter volunteered to bake a cake - asked what I wanted... Response was chocolate fudge cake. It appears that somewhere along the line chocolate fudge got changed to coffee. In honour of the day the cake is topped by sheep...
