Only found this thread a few days back Tom and have really enjoyed going through it - absolutely superb weathering work on display.

I have to agree that the latest A4 is really stunning - could I ask that when you say 'weathered from a photo dated July 1938', is that a rare colour photo from that time, or are you able to interpret weathering from black and white pics?

Hi Keith

It was a black and white phtograph that I worked from (although I do have several colour photos to compare to as reference).

Thank you for the recent positive feedback. It is very much appreciated!

The last of the A4s is finished, here we have 4464 'Bittern' circa 1938. Again I worked from a photograph from 1938/1939 of her working the 'Junior Scotsman'.

Superb! I especially like the A4's.

Cheers Adrian! Yeah I'm pleased with the three. I'll get a photo of them altogether before the client picks them up.

Two Hornby exLNER Toad E Brake Vans on the workbench this week. Lovely model to work on. Another loco to weather tomorrow, and then they will be heading back to their owner!

Stunning work, Tom.

Cheers David!
Always had a thing for Q6s. This is what I enjoy about client's models....it scratches that itch for locos I'd considered buying but would have no reason to!

Here is the second of the Q6s.

Depicted circa 1940. I have to say it was nice going a little further on this one, with a little more degradation around the smokebox (as requested by the client).

I would also recommend proxy shopping - all the pleasure of the purchase and temporary ownership, then you get your money back!

The joy of working on clients models...the sheer variety I am privileged to work on. A couple of industrials in the form of a 4mm Andrew Barclay and a 4mm British Steel Janus. My client kindly supplied several reference photographs of both engines, which certainly helped guide me on the look they were after.

Tom

Great to see you are fully up and running and producing more stunning work.

My G5 and a few Pacific’s are still waiting to get sent up to you - RL is such a hard task master and finding the time to sort things out between getting children through university, GCSEs and 11+ exams is tough. Apologies - I know you have been promised them several times. My garratt is still the envy of all my friends!

Take care

Andrew

Most kind of you @AndyVikingand give me a shout when you plan to send the locos up.

I'm still very pleased of that Garratt I did for you.

Back when I had planned to model the 1930s LNER (Thirsk South), Bachmann had only ever produced the K3 in wartime black minus lining. LNER modellers are now blessed with a fully lined out prewar K3 courtesy of Bachmann.

Finished to the client's specification of being in a working but cleaned condition.

Digital photos can be cruel sometimes. When you zoom in close and spot things you missed. I know from bitter experience.

Thankfully when I zoom in on yours the details just keep on coming. The subtle effects, the blending of techniques, the overall feel of the weathering.

You are truly an artist. Stunning work as always
