dpgibbons
Beginner Q please for assembling my first Slaters 7mm kit, a GW hybar wagon - the split pin goes through which hole in the brass coupling hook shank? The picture on the instructions suggest it's the inner hole, but this leaves the spring highly compressed (and prone to disappear whilst assembling), whilst using the outer hole allows the hook to pull out easily from the buffer beam. hartleymartin
Outer hole. You generally want the hook to pull through slightly when under tension, firstly to smooth out the couplings taking up tension, and secondly for a bit of extra give when going around sharp curves. if it is too loose for your liking, you can glue a bit of card behind the buffer-beam to help reduce the slack. 1
