Great photo.  Fair to say the half height containers as modelled by accurascale haven't been used sine 2015?

Don't they fill the half height containers with concrete when they're loaded?

I believe they are pressurised  and a testing/checking program runs with the containers tested by a pressure drop method so to detect any leaking. I’ve seen a on line report somewhere with all the spec but can’t find it at moment, if I find it I will post a link on here.

Many thanks 25901.

This document is great background and context to the half height containers and their usage.

John

I've seen pics somewhere of them being loaded with small boxes, held into place with a wooden batten framework.

All done with a forklift and manual handling in the open air with little or no specialist protective equipment.

Presumably later filled with concrete before being shifted to the depository at Drigg.

Not that it really matters what is inside the model box.........

Weren’t there white half height boxes too which I seem to remember had a canvas type top

pretty sure I didn’t dream them!

You didn't dream them - there are at least a couple in white.  There were a couple of older ones in white which IIRC were mostly used as tool stores by DRS (I think Gareth B had a picture on Wotw).

There's also at least one white half height container in one of the recent rakes - not sure if it is one of the original white containers or a new one.

Cheers Mike

I have a pic in my collection of 92740 carrying a white half-height box - dated 2013 - and tallies with a KD open day.

But it isn't my pic, so can't post it on.

That’s my recollection too, it was at an open day in one of the dead end roads next to the portacabin type buildings to the south of the depot

I think I may have pics of it somewhere from when I worked at DRS parked in the same location

I think if the half height containers were done as a separate item they would be a sure seller. Hint Hint

Especially if you want to model the site at Drigg.............................

I'm hoping that the gypsum boxes will be made available for later flows with bogie flats.

Which bogie flats do you want?

When the traffic first started I believe Freightliner FFA & FGA we’re used ( please correct if wrong), these were replaced with Tiphook 60’ foot flats running with two containers on each. These in turn were replaced by the 40’ foot purpose built PFA which later were supplemented with former Cawoods flats. The ex Cawoods were scrapped and the 40’ foot ones went into storage at York till taken away about five years ago and refurbished and used by GBRf.

EWS later DB were using FCA’s and GBRf using FEA’s (Marcroft built ones) and also Lowliners with two or three Tiphook or Railease 60’ foot KFA flats.

There was also a rake of the EWS red FKA twins in use around the year 2000. GBRF have gone on to use the 640xxx FEA twins and singles in blue and the odd Network Rail yellow FEA singles have made an appearance on gypsum and container trains in the past ten years or so.

Exactly!

That's why I think the gyppo boxes would sell, as there's a diverse range of flats to run them with.

The FFPS-Kirkby Thore run - when operated with GBRf seemingly operated with all types of their FEA fleet in the same train......

There have been odd occasions when the traffic was running sporadically, that a full set of Tiphook KFAs (as per Hornby) was used.

They are a separate item, each container comes with a free wagon.

;-)

That almost as good as the offer I heard about today, if I can store a couple of loco’s on your railway I’ll give you a free 142.

Nah 142’s are almost as cheap as a dozen o gauge locos, (i’m not joking either), so cheap i’m surprised they've not turned up in the bargains thread.

Could make good model railway club rooms.

It was great to meet the Accurascale Team at Model Rail Scotland.

The stock on show was superb and, as well as my DRS PFA wagons, now have 3 British Fuel and 12 Cawoods!

not sure if I heard correctly during chats but maybe Fran can confirm or tell us I was hearing things. Did I hear mention that Accurascale were going to manufacture loads for the PFA containers or am I dreaming?

Best regards

John

Cheers!
