RMweb Gold TravisM Posted March 31, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 31, 2019 After years of modelling the current US scene, I’m now modelling the current UK scene but im still unsure of what goes with what in the wonderful world of wagons. I’ve observed at Peterborough, several rakes of Network Rail’s IOA’s heading empty from Whitemoor to Mountsorrel and returning loaded and JNA “Falcon’s” on work trains. Is it safe to say that the IOA’s are used to and from quarry to virtual quarry and then JNA’s are loaded at the virtual quarry to take ballast to work sites?
Simon Bendall
Yes, exactly right for those two. Bulk ballast work for IOAs while JNAs will move fresh ballast or spoil, can also carry recovered sleepers and short rail lengths. 1
West Junction
If required by operational circumstances, there is no reason Falcons couldn't be used on a Bulk working. Mussels however, as all high sided opens are prohibited on possession trains . 1 1
