gpplumy
So , the plan is to build a 6 x 2 layout of an imaginary rolling mill built to the rear of the Scunthorpe site sometime in the 70s onward period. Which would also feature some preserved tours allowing to use steam engines . The layout will depict a rolling mill which people will be able to see into where semi finished steel will arrive and rolled steel will depart. The layout will also feature narrow gauge which will transport mill equipment to the nearby workshops. As work progresses I will add more but for now here are just 4 pictures of some of my locos which will be running the layout. In total i have 7 janus locomotives that will be used. With one 02 and one Yorkshire 0-4-0DH. Steam engines will range from mostly those avalaibe as rtr. I hope I can make the mill itself something brilliant after working inside a mill for nearly 10 years . Edited February 6, 2020 by gpplumy

gpplumy
Baseboard are almost complete. Too much life seems to get in the way. How ever my second janus repaint is nearly compete. Due for weathering. This puts me to 7 janus. Over all
gpplumy
Boards are now made up at 1×3 2×3 + 2×3+and a track plan appears. To the left is the 3 foot fiddle yard and headshunt road. The centre 3 foot is the control room and main points. And the final 3 foot is the loco shed and mill building to the top.

gpplumy
A quick but deep update. All the 00 track is down. The 009 track is on its way. One point motor is part fitted. Part of the internal building work is done. And the signal building is part complete. All in all going well
gpplumy
Whilst track is still being pinned and point Motors being tested I turned my attention to the signal building that had recently bought and built and decided that it also required internal decoration as I plan to light it so here is a few pictures after building it and using Faller detailing parts to complete the interior 7
RMweb Premium Dava Posted June 30, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 30, 2019 I like the rolling mill and interior detail as well as the sense of ambition in this project! Dava 1
gpplumy
Thank you dava . The last track is now down. It does however need a few expansion joints cutting. And the layout needs to be operable and looking the part by may 2020!

gpplumy
So while I'm wiring the layout I also made a start on the mill. After the origional plan of building my own went to the wall (for the moment ) I picked up the walthers kit. It's half buildt at the moment being the mill end. It's still having paint added but here it is so far.
gpplumy
They layout wiring is complete... ish. With a few minor issues with the points and alignment but hopefully all can be sorted. And 4 wires I accidentally missed. But test runs seem promising

Are you going to put corrugated plasticard on the inside of the building, between the steel framework?

The rolling mill is designed to take rectangular ingots and roll them into blooms as the bloom and billet mill once did. The walls have since been painted to simulate an inner wall covering which we have in some of the scunthorpe mills. Most walls are bricked or lined with a sort of boarding so I've gone with this method. I believe I have pictures that i can follow this post with. gpplumy
Ok so a rather large update this one. First of all. The main mill building has had more detail added and internal painting. Both halfs are complete within reason but require more weathering. The layout board are built. Fitted and tested and all operational on both the 00 and 009 side. All points throwing and all wiring complete ish. Just needing some tidying. The most interesting test being the 48ds without pickup wagon running perfectly. Buildings have been test fitted. And raised hard standing areas have begun fitting. To allow building positioning. Still lots to do

gpplumy
A little more testing and test fitting. The new workshop building seated in place in the new yard and a view inside of the workshop equipment. And of some of the new wagons patrolling the narrow gauge lines .
