Nope, working nights that weekend. :(

Ah well, maybe one day the stars will align and I'll be off on a weekend when there's a show and I can actually afford to attend it!

Have to start shooting some of them damn stars !

A few other photos from a few days ago of locos and the shed again. I do have some items for detailing inside including figures. However due to the idea of the layout being able to be stripped down to just flat boards for transport, how have others stuck items like figures down. I was considering clear plasticard

So away from the layout we stripped down the industrialised 02 to find out why it struggled with power and sounded like a tank.

After a clean and grease and some moving of wires she was rebuilt and hey presto. She runs. A little loud still but better. And she runs fine

So

Shows cancelled but I have a long video. And 2 new locos arrived before the outbreak.

So some things to look up to

Another shot of the loco shed. The new workshop is in place full of detail. I'll try and add more photos later .

Enjoy your modelling. I'm one of the few still working at this time

So , its been a while, lockdown was a thing, i had several weeks sick, and then its a whirlwind of back to work, but has anything happened.

in short, a little.

  • grass has begun growing in some areas of the layout (well ... being stuck down)
  • a few more figures have arrived and loco crews have been added to several locos
  • the heritage coaches rake has begun to form.
  • still trialing the magnet couplings
  • the ingot wagons now run a lot smoother than before after some work.
  • hornbys austerity 22 burnt out and has been maintained and repaired
  • A Dapol B2  and hardys RSH has joined the steam fleet
  • A NJM models DI8 and a 3d printed hunslet has joined the diesel fleet
  • suitable wagons for scrap are now use to represent end of steam and diesel eras.
  • More pallets and pallet loads have appeared
  • the mail coach is now complete, still not sure of my plans for it

ok maybe more has happened than i realise

So its been. While and since returning to work and to railway operations at the AFRPS Its been a little quiet on the model front.

I've acquired some more types of grass to try and have placed a large etch order for nameplates with narrow planet.

This being due to a new locomotive kit thats on the way from railway mania. It should prove to fill a large hole in the scunthorpe fleet.

Also due to my not being with it it seems that I missed out on the cavalex bba wagons. Does anyone know of anywhere with stock? The flat wagons are regularly seen at scunthorpe. But not the coil carriers.

With there being no image of the railway this time. Here's an image of the steelworks itself . I do wish i had this as a backdrop...

Time for another update

The avonside cranford locos are progressing, but things turned to playing

A new brawa loco was acquired. The first ive owned. And wow. They are a beautiful piece if kit

Followed  up. By the stunning cavalex bba wagons. A big thanks to cavalex direct and rails for enabling me to get 4 wagons. But I may have to make a siding longer lol.

So more interesting stock set ready for if an event ever takes place.

I noticed recently  I never took a decent photo of my re branded "could have been" usa tank. So first to correct that

Other than that am I the only one struggling to find drive to work in the layout rather than operate it.

I still have the pipe bridge to even start. And I've more static grass to go down but for the life of me I just can't seem to do it.

Re the pipe bridge ; is their any good pipe kits out there for larger pipe. Or smaller pipe other than knightwing. And does anyone know of any gantry kits rather than scratch building. Thankyou in advance

Plastruct or Evergreen plastic tube or rod can be used for pipes. Make your own pipe flanges by cutting slices of larger pipe and bends by sticking lengths in boiling water, bend and keep the bendheld until it cools down.

Why not scratchbuild the pipe bridge? You will be able to make it to fit exactly the length that you want and it will look better than a kit.

I think the reason for not scratch building is just because I haven't had the drive to get it done. A kit seems somewhat easier but you are right that a scratch build would fit better.

This book is recommended reading :-

MODELLING HEAVY INDUSTRY – ARTHUR ORMROD

You make a very good point. I already have the book. Never thought about looking at it for some reason.

Finally I forgot to add yet another loco recently joined the fleet. 0-6-0dh sentinel .

So back with another update for you all.

Janus no36 has joined the fleet in her mix and match style. This leads now to a total of 8 janus locos on the layout.

The Cardiff rod mill coil wagons have finally had magnet couplings fitted to them after having issues with the very early style nem sockets were fitted by FTG (filling the gap)

A model rail J70 has joined the fleet and will mainly be making appearances on rail tours.

Also 5 of the narrow gauge locomotives have finally had name plates fitted. Although some of these never feature on the layout due to mainly being run on st retham, scaldwell and the D H Edges will regularly be seen.
