Removing Hornby Decoder

Hello, abit of a specific query; I recently bought the Hornby Maude but have no interest in retaining the chip, I removed it and the speaker and put a spare blanking plate in but now the loco will only run in one direction, IE it will run forwards and not backwards, but if I pick it up and turn it round it will go backwards and not forwards.

Any help on the matter?

I would lift the decoder socket and check the wiring is OK. It may be awry. The track pickups should be connected to opposing corners and the motor feeds to the other opposing corners. No other connections needed unless there are lights fitted.

Check your blanking plate is OK  by removing it and using a bit of wire link the end pins of the socket, i.e. one pickup to one motor feed, ditto at the other end. If the loco responds OK now then your blanking plate maybe has a dry joint.
