But I can't get my head around what is being produced for the price, maybe there's a loss leader involved somewhere?

You will have more idea than me about the costs to be expected, but it seems like machine use plus resin, tampo printing, wheels and buffer heads. On top of that are design and research.  I don't think it's easy to compare what's been achieved with other techniques.

I also can't see a loss leader tactic in this sort of market. If what is produced is desired, it will sell on its own merits. If the price leaps for the next model, it will sell or not again on its merits, but I think Rails have created an expectation regarding price.

............. and - rather oddly - they're still being advertised on RMweb !

If demand is sufficient, the joy of this technology is a second run shouldn't be too difficult to arrange quickly.

Hey Rails, how is production going with these wagons? :)

Hi,

Production is going well, currently the vans are in the paint shop!

They should hopefully not be much longer.

I will update again soon

Thanks

Oliver

These look really impressive, a real shame I missed out on preordering. Although another shout-out for producing an SECR liveried model and I'd get 2 or 3.

The finish is so good, if you didn't know you would say these are conventional injection moulded construction. Well done Rails/Dapol, hopefully more like this to come.

Thank you, Oliver, for explaining the reasons behind the delay.  I do hope the problems you encountered have not put you off the process but instead have provided solutions for future production.

Is it just me - or does the roof really not sit right down on the bodywork?

Stan

It appears to have been that way since day 1 of the project.
