Doing that has really opened up the view, it looks a lot better. I would be tempted just to leave it as open wasteland with just some old foundations and general rubbish or something - maybe even the remains of an old trackbed from a kickback siding from the fuel road?

Coming on a treat Andy, really looking good.

Al.

Cheers Al, It certainly needs to be something low and not to over powering.

It won't be a Trackbed I'm afraid, as I already have a reputation as being; all track Peters, haha.:nono:

Is it a cage for naughty trainspotters.

Its a viewing area for when the Flying Scotsman visits to keep enthusiasts safely  away from the track so they don’t get lambasted in the Daily Mail

Hi Andrew, this is the one I've tried to be guided by size wise at Exeter Dt Davids.

Or these at Buxton.

And although mine is mounted higher up, and still needs more pipes and painting, I'm quite please with it so far.

Firstly I took a bit of Chipboard and cut it to size,

Then as it wasn't as high as I wanted I cut a bit of MDF to the same size,

Next I nailed the two bits of wood together.

Then I re cut them so they were square and the same size,:man_in_love_mini:

I then added a bit of Plasticard all around the outside,

and then some Brick Plasticard and a capping,

Then the ladders from the spare double stack Portacabin kit and the Man.

As I say, it still needs more pipes and painting, (the Tank isn't fixed yet) but it's looking O.K. to me.

Hi Andy

I think it’s just sitting a bit high and that makes it look too big. I’d drop it down into the bund so that it sits lower. All coming along nicely though.

I think your right Ian, or, I might even do it the same as Exeter, (see first pic in Post above), and put it on it's stanchions on the ground, or again like Peak Forrest below.

Hi Andy

It's looking good, but since you seem to have a few doubts.....

In my time in the oill industry I recall a pretty standard tank size as 30' x 9' (diam), that

held approx 6000galls if my memory is correct.

The brick bund  would not be infilled (your block of wood/MDF) as that is the working space.

That space should be capable of holding all the tank contents, plus a margin.

Of course your tank may still need to be raised to create a head, so there would be a gravity feed. In which

case this would have been a steelwork frame, or brick saddles.

Good practice would also see all pipework routed over the bund wall, NOT through, to maintain the integritry of the wall, and therefore

minimise the chance of leaks, should the bund be filled. (Of course this could lead to problems with collected rainwater).

Of course it would be equally valid to keep yours as is, but use low camera angles so we don't see inside!

Maybe a site visit might be needed soon!

Hopefully this is useful to some of your many fans - All the best.

Thanks Tony for that very useful info. I may well do away with Bund and just go for it sitting on the Saddles as it is now, but on the floor as per Exeter.

Yes we must arrange a visit, I'm looking forward to that, but please let me get Mum's Funeral on the 14th June, the Solicitors / Will and House sale out of the way so I have a more clear Diary and mind.

You could be right I reckon some very soft LEDs would look good needs to be subdued so that it doesn't over power the rest of the scene. :keeporder:

Cheers Martin, I'll try and get some at DEMU at the weekend, I only have red and green in stock at the moment.

Looking good, Andy!

I'm envious of all your stock, I must say. This looks like a layout that's fun to operate, I'll study in greater detail soon.

Cheers,

John

Cheers John, and also for all the likes from previous post's, I do like lots of variety in Depot Stock.
