Prototype for Hornby R510 Platform Shelter

Hi All,

Is anyone aware of a prototype for the long-lived Hornby R510 Platform shelter please?

Having seen the distressed paint finish achieved on the signal box on  http://www.p4newstreet.com/category/buildings I want to try on something simple and the shelter seems a good candidate. I'm looking for a suitable railway company paint scheme and ideally a photo to add realistic detail.

I dont think there was a specific prototype that Hornby based it on, but I've seen pictures of similar structures on both ex-GW and ex-SR lines.

I always thought of it being GWR style.

I went looking last night and found this which I like.

Which suggests Southern.

 

And this which is GWR.

So I think it's something which probably had similar structures all over the country as I'm sure there was some in the North East as well.

I’ve got one of those and always thought it looked a bit Southern.

I 'detailed' one once by fitting a finer corrugated roof (Wills), finer barge boards (Ratio), thinning the window frames slightly, glazing them and a repaint into Western Region colours.  It looked OK to me!

With the roof projecting all round, I'd thought it was quite reminiscent of the up platform shelter at Earley, though on a closer look it's not very like. But that does perhaps suggest a SER or SE&CR origin?

Thanks Compound 2632, I get the similarity of the roof projecting all round and agree that other features are quite different.

 

Thanks for the reference eastglosmog, again sharing some features. It appears to be an amalgamation of company styles, probably to broaden it's appeal. What I don't get is the upstand on the valance, anyone recognise it please?

Similar shelters existed on the Somerset and Dorset railway. But I suppose the same could be said for all the UK.

I think ultimately theres only so many variations on "timber shed with a sloping roof and a shelter" that you can have. Theres bound to be similarities.
