Run a Motor on a function output

I want to add a motor to a roof fan of a Hornby class 56. does anyone know if you can add a small 3 volt motor to the function output of a DCC Decoder?

Hi,

 

If the motor takes less current than the function output is rated for then you should be able to add a suitable resistor in series to drop the function output down from 12 volts to 3 volts (or lower if the fan runs too fast).
