RMweb Premium Ray H Posted July 5, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 5, 2020 Here we are. Top right is the Motor-rail siding, the parcels platform is below that. Then there's the two passenger platforms with the PW sidings below them. The middle track at extreme left is the running line with headshunts either side. The loop (roughly) in the middle is the maintenance shed (on one track) with the Oil siding between the shed and the main running line. 1
RMweb Gold jcarta Posted July 12, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 12, 2020 (edited) Well the weekend weather has allowed Ray & I to start cutting the boards for fitting to the framework and then start the felting so here is a few pictures of how we are getting on.... Hopefully the weather will be kind to us to allow us to get on and do some more. Just because the sun's out he thinks he can have a 15 minute nap...... RMweb Premium Ray H Posted July 13, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 13, 2020 I'm sure that things had advanced almost that far when I had to return home for lunch! Perhaps someone else has to have an after dinner nap. That is one of the rare occasions when I can be found on top of a layout rather than below it - wiring it up I hasten to add, not snoozing! It is certainly coming along well. With luck we should be able to make a start on track laying some time this week. However, if things go to plan we're planning to keep the wiring and the like easily accessible so there shouldn't be any need to go under this layout.

RMweb Gold jcarta Posted July 13, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 13, 2020 (edited) Another afternoon spent in the garden we managed to felt the boards that were put in yesterday and placed another board before the rain came so we went into planning mode then..... We also filled the car with the old carcasses for a trip to the recycling centre tomorrow, so all in all a good job done. Look at him...... He's getting the bin ready..... Yep just as I thought he's bogie watching just like Andy Peter's Lazy Joe Jim Edited April 2, 2022 by jcarta 2

RMweb Gold jcarta Posted July 15, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 15, 2020 (edited) Well today was a good day, Ray & I fitted the corner pieces in between the showers and when he had to disappear for a nap, sorry lunch, then a nap I fitted the felt and started trimming. Tomorrow hopefully we will be cutting the boards for the cross garden section and then we are 2/3 done with the top boards, at this rate we may have trains running sooner than expected So a few pictures of today's work and a some of the overall work so far. RMweb Premium Ray H Posted July 15, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 15, 2020 The last I heard Jim was thinking of changing the track plan to a four track main line! He also needs to lay the track before ballasting the whole area - at least the first picture in his latest post looks like the boards have been ballasted (very uniformly).
RMweb Gold jcarta Posted July 15, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 15, 2020 Four track it is then Mr Ray ...... another thing you have talked yourself into

I am, sorry, we are, definitely counting the days to putting some track down & running trains although the layout will have a few extra tracks / sidings than previously. I would like to go down your road and add some overhead wires but please don't tell Ray as I think he has enough to do .... As you are starting from scratch the Northampton bit of the west coast main line will look nice, freight and some EMUs,DMUs and diverted inter- citys, you know you want too.
pwr
Full support to overheads! In my European modelling days we made a full set of scale overheads for a HO Dutch layout from scratch including the dual contact wires. RMweb Gold jcarta Posted July 16, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 16, 2020 Mmmmmm I think a few friends will have coupling & uncoupling issues with the catenary getting in the way.... RMweb Gold jcarta Posted July 16, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 16, 2020 (edited) Well today has been another productive day with another board being cut then fitted, it's definitely starting to take shape. Ray reckons that all the boards should be finished and fitted by Sunday, weathering permitting. Here's today's effort from the bend and I fitted the felt this afternoon, if you have a small vocabulary feel free to visit the premises and you will leave as though you have swallowed a dictionary full of naughty words Jim Edited April 2, 2022 by jcarta 5

You could have working overhead that will make the cat jump and you could go down the road with auto uncoupling no excuse, thats me gone it looks like there could be something heavy heading to the south coast as the hammer lands.
