RMweb Gold jcarta Posted April 26, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 26, 2019 (edited) For a few months now I have been contemplating about moving my railway page to the correct heading but never got around to it and now I have decided it was time. I will repeat the last month or so and continue adding anything to this page rather than the old one. The old pages are under the following heading Jim Edited August 6, 2023 by jcarta
RMweb Gold jcarta Posted April 26, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 26, 2019 Been an interesting few weeks on the railway, first up I purchased a Skytrex Class 40 quite a few years ago and one afternoon I was picking up some bits and bobs from Skytrex. Dave gave me a guided tour of his extended workshop and I noticed he had a split headcode version body sitting on a shelf gathering dust so another purchase was made. The body was in green and stayed like this for the next 2 years, that was until 3 weeks ago where it received a new lick of paint and a sound chip. Although the model is not as good as the Heljan version it will still have a home on the railway. Next up my colleague Ray and I have been re-laying some track in the garden around the sidings area as it wasn't working for us when operating the stock so a 3 way point was purchased from Marcway and installed as this has allowed us to increase the siding lengths. The cross-over on the main has be relocated further down as this will allow us to enter the sidings directly from the main. Original layout. New Layout Lastly, the sun has arrived so this means next doors cat has its own sunbed ....... His mate is hiding behind the shrub by the bench Jim
Aldgate Box Boy
Hi Jim, lovely trackwork, can you tell me about your signals - the shunts at great. cheers Tim
RMweb Gold jcarta Posted April 26, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 26, 2019 Good Morning Tim Aldgate Box Boy....... I take it you were JTRO many years ago, when was you at Aldgate? The main signals are a collection of semaphore and colour light. The semaphores are utilised indoors and the colour lights are outdoors as they are more weather resistant. The semaphores / shunt signals were built either by my colleague Ray or by Jon Fitness. At present the shunts that are outside are non working and just there for show but eventually they will either become operational or colour light. I have attached a picture of the shunts and frame that operate the indoor section. The outside signals and points are operated via a control panel Jim
RMweb Gold jcarta Posted August 26, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 26, 2019 (edited) Doesn't time fly ...... Well the railway has been updated with the layout being slightly altered with the addition of an extra siding at Knowmoor and the crossover relocated and an addition of a 3 way point at the Ayr Road Sidings end to give the operator a little bit more flexibility operational. The corner section that were also giving us a lot of headaches with rolling stock becoming continuously derailed has also been sorted and flatten to stop this and everything seems to run round the curve smoothly. New siding at Knowmoor New 3 Way point at Ayr Rd Sidings New crossovers into Ayr Rod Sidings We have had some issues with a few of the point motors and these were returned to DCC Concepts for rectification and duly fitted to the layout on return before having a running session, everything seemed to operate as it should do, thanks Ray, for your assistance. The Running Session Class 15 & Jinty are Ray's pride & joy Anyway moving on, someone was selling a 3rd Brake Westdale Pullman coach, so hey why not..... The chap had another one and a deal was struck up ..... only need two more to make a full special train...something else to store... More on this project in the next day or so Anyway enough from Costa Del Milton Keynes Jim Edited August 26, 2019 by jcarta Me
RMweb Gold jcarta Posted August 28, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 28, 2019 (edited) Evening The Pullman coach is coming along quite nicely however on the next build I will do it slightly different...... at least you learn by our mistakes (spray the ends prior to fitting to body).... The wooden chassis is cut to size and sprayed and now the customers can dine in style as the tables have been painted and fitted. Lastly, I think the next door neighbours cat prefers my garden rather than their own..... RMweb Gold jcarta Posted September 4, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 4, 2019 Afternoon My mate Ray & I visited Telford on Saturday to have a look around, didn't need anything really but still came away £250- £300 lighter........ Anyway I managed to pick up another Pullman kit, something to do on the dark nights this winter. I did manage to put some paint on the first Pullman. And the under frame including wheels Next up will be the lining ...... Something I am not looking forward to. Then it will be door furniture, glazing, end connections etc Jim 3 1
RMweb Gold jcarta Posted September 8, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 8, 2019 Morning Another update on the Pullman front. I have managed to put some decals on the coach and before you ask these need to be applied in a sound proof cell as my neighbours have never heard so much swearing .... Well that's the first one done so hopefully practice will make prefect. I know that some of the decals are missing but I plan to return to the coach in the next day or so to remedy at the same time I will paint the lights above the doors and at the door furniture. I have enjoyed putting this one together but the next ones I build I will do it slightly different as it makes it easier to paint and glaze the ends prior to fitting to the main coach body... RMweb Gold jcarta Posted October 27, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 27, 2019 This week has been spent adding some perspex to the front on the layout to prevent any stock accidentally being knocked off the railway. Then I started on some platform lighting. Jim

RMweb Premium Ray H Posted March 11, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 11, 2020 (edited) I hope they weren't taken this morning otherwise the difference between one end of our estate and the other is far worse than anything global warming can do. In fact we had the felt on the inside of our loft sprayed yesterday and it seems to be working because this morning, two hours after the central heating usually comes on it still hadn't! P.S. Can I bring my blue loco round when the weather gets warmer (and the loco arrives)? Edited March 11, 2020 by Ray H
RMweb Gold jcarta Posted March 11, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 11, 2020 Of course you can....... It will have some great friends which are also blue (nothing to do with the cold) ...... just good Blue mates.... Jim 1

RMweb Premium Ray H Posted March 14, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 14, 2020 Cor, don't those track pin heads look massive? Mind you, not sure what you can do about it. I doubt PVA would survive in the open all year round.

Andrew P
Hi Jim, Just found this and you and young Ray, (yes we have met up at shows) seem to have a super Layout together. Your choice of Motive Power is superb, you cant beat a nice 40, unless of course you have a 50 that is.
RMweb Gold jcarta Posted March 16, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 16, 2020 Andy Thanks for the kind words, it give me the enthusiasm from you and others that follow to get up and bring new items to the railway. If it wasn't for my mate Ray (the great electric guru and his exceptional enthusiasm) I can honestly say I don't believe this project would have got off the ground. It started out as a layout similar to 'Seven Mills' but it just seemed to grow and grow starting from the garage and running into the garden, now we both have fun just running my stock and Ray's Kettle's (& his odd diesel... But I am trying to convert him.. but I think he is too strong willed).... Thanks for dropping in on Ayr Road.... Much appreciated .... Good luck with yours & Dee's move to the Souf Jim 1
