RMweb Gold toboldlygo Posted June 2, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 2, 2020 Two nice parcels arrived today one from @gwrrob and one personally delivered by @A Murphy for Robin - all will be revealed in the coming months In the meantime, after constructing a soldering jig, I started making the tracks for the engine shed.. Two down, two to go. Oh and got this en-route 7
RMweb Gold toboldlygo Posted June 6, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 6, 2020 So a lot more progress on the Engine Shed. Virtually an entire pack of 3.2 x 3.2 mm square stock and a whole sheet of 1mm thick sheet of styrene later the base is ready for paint (only taken a week). And the Universal Carrier Mk.II arrived - looks a lovely little kit too.

RMweb Gold toboldlygo Posted June 26, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 26, 2020 Lots of things have been going on, hence why no entries. So time for an update... Su122 is finished.. As are a fair few Hornby GWR Coaches in P4.. And a Brazilian Jug.. When I can pull my finger out they'll be a few new blog entries.. 5
RMweb Gold toboldlygo Posted July 5, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 5, 2020 Okay I've been busy (again) time for a few updates.. Amazon yet again lost my order(s), so I haven't be able to get the electrics done of the Timber Tracks Engine Shed - so in the meantime I've got the roof panels assembled.. Also the little Severn Models Line-side Hut is complete.. (more photo's to come on that one). And yes the Revell Shack MR.3 is back on the workbench and heading rapidly towards completion.. ... with a little help from Airfix Plus coming soon Toboldlygo is about to go Beyond with this build.. I've also been on the shelf of doom
RMweb Gold toboldlygo Posted July 8, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 8, 2020 Should be done tomorrow and then it's back to the electrics on the Engine Shed.. 4
railroadbill
Shak looking really good, James. See you've got all the red-white-red stripes on the prop tips since last picture, was that what the Airfix transfer sheet was for? My Mk3 shack is coming on, wings and tail assembled, fuselage needs to be joined next. Very well detailed kit imho, mostly excellent fit of parts. Anyway, a technical question, if I may be so bold. My copy of "warpaint no.8 Avro Shackleton" has the major colour for later Shaks as dark sea grey, BS638. I've got some Tamiya dark sea grey, XF-54 and was going to use that. (The Revell instructions give Revell 378 paint, but if I've already got the right colour...) However, in the book and various other pics and film clips, the grey on different aircraft seems to be more of, lets say, a "mushroom soup" warm grey on later ones, (like AEW2s) and a sort of "blueberry" harder bluer tint on earlier ones. Now this could be just the effect of light, or older film stock, (or just me). Your one looks a good colour, what paint did you use, please? cheers, Bill.

railroadbill
If it's anything gwr it must be ok then... They obviously had better roof dirt than lesser railways,... Edited July 9, 2020 by railroadbill 1

I used Vallejo Model Air 71.054 Dark Grey Blue, which is the colour I use for GWR Coach roofs lol Queue the Imperial March from Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope.. The Shackleton's are relentless.. MR3.. And then there was 3.. Soon it will be 4....
railroadbill
Thanks for that, so gwrrob was right about the coach roof colour!! Looks like the colour in book pictures I've got, with a blueish tint. Impressive line up of Shackletons there.
railroadbill
What I was getting at was that MR3s in this and other books, plus video clips etc. seem to have a bluer grey paint finish than the colour suggested in Revell's instructions. (The one in pieces at Duxford being restored is in a very faded light blue/grey, having been outside for a long time). Your Vallejo colour looks right to me so thanks for heads-up. Now finished cockpit on mine...time to stick fuselage together! Edited July 10, 2020 by railroadbill

Good luck with the fuselage 1
railroadbill
I've got the interior units fitted to one fuselage half now. Instrument panel is a good moulding imho (I used the transfers with a decal fix solution and they really settled over the moulded instruments). Anyway, when I've got a bit further with it all I'll put it on a blog entry. Painted the prop blades white to start on the tip red-white-red stripes :-) Thanks again for your hints, they've been very useful.
