Anyone want to see me do a sprue review blog entry on it? I've got the Hobbyboss Karl itself, but I would like to see the sprues of the railway carrier. Then I can compare them to my Hasegawa model. For the all important question: Should I upgrade or not? 1

RMweb Gold toboldlygo Posted August 30, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 30, 2020 This week's update.. A couple of water cranes finished. Another one stripped and rebuilt. Weighbridge finished The mojo killer - apply roof tiles to the Engine Shed. Other works in progress.. The USS Franklin is ready for a clear coat (honing my bare metal finish skills for the B-29A) Mojo took a real hammering this week - so time for another bit of armour - a T-55 from Tamiya. And a couple more kits for the stash..

RMweb Premium St Enodoc Posted August 30, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 30, 2020 Look forward to seeing the Comet built. Used to see it at Old Warden but only on the ground in those days. 1 1
RMweb Gold toboldlygo Posted September 4, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 4, 2020 So this weeks been a bit of a nightmare, too many distractions (including a very poorly Labrador). Fortunately he's on the mend, but it's slow going at present, as his eating and drinking need to be monitored. On 30/08/2020 at 23:08, St Enodoc said: Look forward to seeing the Comet built. And finally there's a fourth... 5
railroadbill
Comet should look good in 1:48th, especially as "black magic". A very attractive aircraft imho, and a very successful design from an interesting era. Just put a couple of pics of my Airfix 1:72nd one on "non-railway modelling" thread.

And very nice it looks too So far this week I've been mainly working on the engine shed, the exterior is nearly done, the guttering is painted (that may get fitted tonight) then I can get the drain pipes made up). The conical water tower has made great progress, no photo's yet. I also finished the T-55 (I'll put a build blog up when I have time). And a couple of new arrivals..
railroadbill
Yay! The revell ex matchbox sea venom! Reckon it'll be possible to see all the cockpit detail on that. Had to look up HMS Abercrombie, trumpeter do some unusual subjects. T-55 weathering looks good, very subtle.

The decals are in very good shape, might get some aftermarket seat belts for the ejector seats. HMS Abercrombie was on special on Amazon, you get a lot in the kit for it's size. It rang a bell with me because one of the guns from her sister ship (HMS Roberts) sits outside the Imperial War Museum in London. No paint was used for the weathering on the T-55, it was just Flory Washes, Tamiya Weathering Powders and a HB Pencil. And for being so nice, here's a bonus video https://youtu.be/VFnhfkgKdEQ 2
railroadbill
Tank on revolving stand looked good. Flory washes with clay base interesting, looked those up and they had some good reviews worth a try I think.

The Flory Washes are good, a little goes along way* and you can airbrush it too - that's what I did on the T-55 primarily. I air-brushed the whole tank a clear coat of XF-86 Flat Clear (which dries satin) to seal the decals. Once this had dried I gave it a coat of dark dirt wash and let it dry. After it's dried I used wet cotton buds to clean off the excess and once it had dried off, I hand brushed the tracks/ road wheels and lower hull with brown and repeated the same steps to clean it up. I've got the compete set,but personally I think you only need Dark Dirt, Brown and Black to lightly weather a model. *I've only used about a sixth of the bottle of Dark Dirt and I've weathered the P-47D, Shackleton MR.3, Lineside Hut, Weighbridge & the T-55 with it. 2

RMweb Gold toboldlygo Posted September 23, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 23, 2020 Been very busy here, a very poorly Labrador that needed a lot of tlc - being the main reason for the lack of updates (he's made a remarkable recovery btw). I've also had a 10' by 10' spanner put in the works on Friday - instead of mid-November, my Workshop arrives on the 30th of this month. So the shed has hit the fan! 1
RMweb Gold toboldlygo Posted September 23, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 23, 2020 With you all distracted, time for the modelling updates.. The Engine shed exterior is ready for some weathering.. I've also fitted some of the interior pieces.. And a post sponsored by Modelu.. After a few paint issues the conical water crane has made some progress.. While these bits were drying I got the USS Franklin finished.. And a couple of arrivals for the stash.. There's more but I haven't had time to take pictures (yet).

steaming_chris
Coming along nicely. The last picture reminds me, in a small way, of a Pink Floyd album cover. Lighting and electrics soon?

Subfloor and partition wall for the storage area first big job, the materials come next Monday - so that's jobs on it for next week. As the Workshop wasn't due till mid-November, it's come in the middle of quite a lot of commission work, so I need to balance things out accordingly. 3
RMweb Gold toboldlygo Posted October 4, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 4, 2020 Not much, if any progress on the Workshop - weather's been appalling and quite frankly I'm still recovering from all the physical work lol. Expecting a material delivery tomorrow - so there may be some work going on - weather permitting. In the meantime, a couple of new arrivals. And back on the bench from over a year on the shelf of doom.. 3
