Well the only one in the doghouse is @Hroth and apparently he's now locked up in the fourth sub-basement of the new MiM facilities in Newton Abbot, wrapped in hessian sacks & tied with hemp rope and dangling upside down over the scorpion pit (apparently the new Grand Inquisitor is a huge Terry Pratchett fan) 1

The Workshop, there's been some progress, however last Monday I managed to injure my upper back, so I've had to take it relatively easy. The insulation is all done.. And as of this morning I've got a minimum of 1 coat of paint on the outside (the front's had a second coat). I may start the ceiling cladding this afternoon, as I have a huge order coming from Wickes tomorrow to for the workshop (plasterboard, guttering & more cladding) - just in time for lockdown 2. Railway commissions, I've been fitting those in - I'm currently working on half a dozen coaches. Improving a B-Set, I added lamp brackets to the outer ends, hand painted all the droplights and axle-box covers - then the coaches will be weathered. However I'm just waiting on a replacement allocation decal for one of the ends (as yet again Railtec decals have disintegrated on me). Improving a Hornby Auto Coach, painted the interior - not a particularly easy job, as the interior is part of the body moulding. Added lamp brackets and resprayed the roof. The other 3 are all masked up ready for their roof's to be resprayed, oh and I've added destination board brackets to one of them as well Completed a number of commission's mostly for @gwrrob - including a certain WD 2-8-0. And a third Skytrex Water crane for another client. Other projects Eduard 1/48th Scale Hawker Typhoon, I do bits on it when I have a quiet few minutes. It's now to the stage were exterior paint is being added. I'm also working on a little ship.. There's also been a few new arrivals for the stash Next update won't be too long. Hi James, re your Horten 229 kit, you might be interested in this link from the Smithsonian museum, who actually have one (well, a half completed prototype). Some very good pictures in the article, of the front and particularly the cockpit. https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smithsonian-institution/truth-stranger-fiction-hortens-all-wing-aircraft-design-180976095/?utm_source=gosmithsoniannewsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=202011-gosmith&spMailingID=43841942&spUserID=MTEzMDIxNjg0NDIwNAS2&spJobID=1880382736&spReportId=MTg4MDM4MjczNgS2 The museum's latest newsletter coincidentally featured the plane and I thought I'd seen something about that very recently, it was your kit.

The Horton 229 has always been on my to build list, but until Zoukei Mura brought their kits out, most kits had been pretty crude up to then. I have seen that link before many thanks for reminding me, but I've also seen one of the Horton Brother's earlier glider versions of their flying wing at the Deutsches Museum Flugwerft (Aviation) in Oberschleißheim I also saw the Solar Eclipse from there Edited November 7, 2020 by toboldlygo text 1

According to (appropriately enough) "Raising Steam" the scorpion pit has been discontinued and replaced by Cedric and his kittens (twinkle, twinkle, apparently...) Anyhow, after the last time, the MiM put me on the "ignore" list. 1

May be a while before it's possible to get there sadly... I've been to the Smithsonian air and space museum (and some of the others) but not the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center where the Horten is. The second prototype that crashed must have been desperate to fly sitting right between two jet engines... Look forward to seeing your model in due course. Also I got 3 bottles of Flory washes, black brown and dark dirt. Very good, worked well on buildings, one wood, one plastic, and made them look similar and realistic. Also worked well bringing up aircraft panel lines. great thing is it comes off easily if you don't like how it's gone on. Thanks for heads up on those. cheers, Bill

Thanks for heads up on those. cheers, Bill It works well on freight stock too, but that's for another day Sorry for the lack of updates, the workshop, injury and railway commissions have been keeping me busy. The workshop was going swimmingly, until I lifted one sheet of plasterboard too many on my own and put myself out of action for 10 days on that front - twas a Groin Strain to far.. .. anyhow yesterday I finished the plaster boarding. A lot of joints & screw heads to fill and sand now and then I can get some paint on the walls. So while heavy lifting was out, I kept myself busy with finishing a nice batch of rolling stock.. There's more, but they are embargoed at present I've also been working an couple of personal models.. HMS Abercrombie.. And finally a piece of Armour in Panzer Dark Grey - a StuG III More to come very soon.. 3 1
RMweb Gold toboldlygo Posted November 29, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 29, 2020 Okay time for an update.. Railway Commission's.. The Typhoon is getting there slowly. Completed kits.. Tamiya 1/48th Scale StuG III Tamiya 1/48th Scale M.20 Armoured Utility Car. New arrivals for the stash.. 6

RMweb Gold toboldlygo Posted December 17, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 17, 2020 So time for a Mid-December update.. Completed Railway projects. Mike's Models GWR Conical Water Tower - this was ground up restoration & rebuild, but I calling this one done. Modelu Milk Churns, this was a relatively quick job. And this one, seen elsewhere on RMWeb, squeezed in between watching wallpaper dry on the workshop and railway kit building (including the first rolling stock brass kit). Railway work in progress. The Starfish are currently in paint - there's five of them. These will be the first wagons painted using lacquers. I'm also working on this.. A Frogmore Confederacy GWR Permanent Way Van, progress slowed a halt as it managed to kill two soldering irons - fortunately a new one has arrived.. The workshop has been progressing well, but slowly. That's all for now.

RMweb Gold toboldlygo Posted January 17, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 17, 2021 So where have I been... Succumbed to the vile plague - NO. Abducted by the MIM to do a urgent commission for the Grand Inquisitor - NO. Having my usual Winter Break from Railway Modelling - Yes. So what have I been doing.. Finishing of a shelf of doom kit, working on some Tamiya 1/48th Scale Armour and a 1/350th Scale Ship.. Hawker Typhoon Mk.IB - started in 2019. A little German Tank (Panzerkampfwagen 38(t)) A Tiger I (all those wheels) & a Sturmtiger (less wheels and still a work in progress). And yes the Sturmtiger has Zimmerit I mention a ship didn't I.. Monitor HMS Abercrombie So I've had a busy Winter Break. And a busy New Year (so far), but that's for another post
RMweb Gold toboldlygo Posted February 7, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 7, 2021 Oops forgot to post part two.. Railway commissions have been taking up most of my time - though if the weather has been good I've been busy on the Workshop. First up the Railway stuff, mostly wagons, a few coaches and a Loco.. P4 Rolling Stock - just correcting numbering errors.. A rake of Cambrian Kits Starfish and removable ballast loads (OO Gauge).. Currently still in works, a rake of Airfix Centenary's.. And a Bullied..
RMweb Gold toboldlygo Posted February 7, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 7, 2021 Part 3: the Workshop Update.. It's nearly there, I just need a decent warm spell to connect up the electrics now and do some more wood work.. And after nearly 4 months after being ordered the spray booth arrived (paid for by ANTB Members) and plumbed in yesterday.. Yes I was sitting on the roof my other shed drilling a four inch hole in the side of the shed! 7
RMweb Gold toboldlygo Posted February 7, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 7, 2021 Part 4 (yep there's a part 4): Another Armour and Kit Update. I finished the Sturmtiger - camo was a right pain.. And something much smaller from Tamiya's 1/48th Scale Military Miniature Series: Universal (Bren Gun) Carrier Mk.II. Currently on the go: Hobby Bosses 1/48th Scale KV-1, certainly not shake n bake! And a few more kits for the stash (and forth coming builds) and in age of initial release too! 1961 1976 2006 2021 And a pair of single blade cutters to try And that is definitely it for now..
RMweb Gold toboldlygo Posted February 24, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 24, 2021 First residents have arrived in the workshop.. The Big news today - no un-rolling extension leads to the workshop is needed. She's connected to the mains and boy do I know it after wrestling with armoured power cable for the last two days.. And here's a very brief tour... https://youtu.be/Kej55UyR7qc 6
