Best investment I've made knife wise (aside from my faithful Stanley 99E) I was having such trouble getting X Acto blades and found about Excel knives. The blades fit the X Acto handles, but also brought a knife handle as well - it's still on the original blade, they've got excellent edge retention.. 1
RMweb Gold toboldlygo Posted June 1, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 1, 2019 More progress on the Typhoon.. Fuselage isn't glued together - just being used as a jig to keep the cockpit square...
RMweb Gold toboldlygo Posted June 8, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 8, 2019 Apologies for the lack of updates, been busy with my day job.. Got the Typhoon buttoned up, before I put it back in the box.

railroadbill
The typhoon is eduard I think? My only eduard 1:48 kit is a Bristol fighter (in a Revell box!) and the instrument panel decals are again very good. Only trouble is the panel is somewhat forward of the cockpit coming so difficult to see.

Yes the Typhoon is an elderly Hasegawa kit. re- boxed by Eduard - hence why I used the decals, rather than the etch - as the cockpit is very much the black-hole of Calcutta. I also have the Eduard Bristol Fighter (Weekend Edition - so no PE)
RMweb Gold toboldlygo Posted June 16, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 16, 2019 Busy week, so haven't been able to post this mini blog: Take a Hornby Clerestory, some 3D printed bogies and produce a Post War Clerestory in Wartime Brown... After fully disassembling the coach - the only part that was glued was the glazing), other than it's all clips. 3D printed bogies fitted and chassis resprayed. Roof's painted Dark Sea Grey - Vallejo Model Air 71.053. Roof's masked up and ready for body colour to be spayed - Vallejo Model Air Dark Brown (RLM 61) 71.042. All masking removed and body reassembled (except glazing) - also painted the ends black. Grab rails & door handles picked out in gold & Coat of Arms added (Railtech) After a coat of satin varnish was applied and then the coach was reassembled. It was however pointed out to me at this point - the foot boards needed removing This was duly done and the coach was prepped for weathering (windows masked for the initial weathering). Back from paint and almost ready for the coach's reveal to her owner @gwrrob All done.. 2

Interesting, I hadn't got round to adding numbers to my austerity brown clerestory brake (non gangway from Slaters), now I wont bother!

RMweb Gold toboldlygo Posted June 17, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 17, 2019 A few more projects... Oxford Rail 6 Wheel TOAD A Return to Works - 7752 needed a chassis transplant.. I took advantage of the nice weather to go outside with a rattle can of Halfords Grey Primer to spray the bridge of the Midland Railway Center GWR Turntable, I have to do for a client..

With no panelling, the model looks a bit bare when compared with those photos. Did any actually have all the panelling replaced by flush sides? RMweb Gold toboldlygo Posted June 21, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 21, 2019 Busy cursing HMRS Pressfix Transfers today - out of register coach numbers, Fox to the rescue fortunately! In the meantime, a couple of coach photo's I had to hold back... Hornby GWR Collett Suburban Composites (Left & Right handed) - roofs resprayed grey and lightly weathered. More painting & weathering work done on the Turntable - bridge needs final weathering (and track cleaning) and base is waiting for the paint to cure properly (I used a Railmatch Enamel Aerosol - forgot how much it stinks), before I weather the pit. And a couple of new arrivals.. My first Tempest V kit in nearly 40 years (the last was the first kit I built by myself - Revell 1/72nd as I recall). And an another pair of tin-snips - first pair I've brought in over 23 years..

RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted June 24, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 24, 2019 From what I've seen this is truly a stunning kit and really is a world away from those 1/24th kits I built in the late 70s. I don't think it can get much better than this. Looking forward to seeing the build someday. 1

The way the instructions work, you only need one sprue per major assembly - so each sprue is technically a kit in itself, which means you don't need to build it in order.
RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted June 24, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 24, 2019 Lets make it a joint RMweb build then, like the layout modules. Each modeller has a sprue to build [20 I'm told] and they can come together at the end. 1 1
