Seanem44
Hi all. I am trying to make some 2-3 coach long Southern Railway trains using RTR stock that is already out, but not having much luck figuring out which coaches I would (or should) need. Era 3, 30s and 40s. Any assistance would be very helpful and much appreciated.

Bomag
This would seem to fit your location and time frame. https://www.Bachmann.co.uk/product/graham-farish-secr-60ft-birdcage-3-coach-pack-sr-maunsell-green-374-911/
RMweb Gold JohnR Posted May 3, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 3, 2019 It very much depends on which part of the Southern network you would be representing - and of course in which scale.
woodenhead
Hornby (Dapol for N) Maunsell sets can work in threes and also in OO is the ex LSWR non corridor coaches from Hornby. But as John R says, depends where you want to model as the SR was three distinct areas with their own flavour. Forties bring Bulleid coaches - long (Bachmann - N or OO), short (Hornby) Edited May 3, 2019 by woodenhead
RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted May 4, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 4, 2019 Also the 40s were awful for the SR as it was wartime and things were haphazard. 30s possibly a better time? P
Seanem44
I’m an idiot. OO. I had planned on a wartime layout and just post wartime.
RMweb Gold JohnR Posted May 5, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 5, 2019 Which section of the SR are you thinking of? If Eastern Section, then the Bachmann birdcage stock would be good, though I am not an expert on their exact travels. Western section, you could use the Hornby ex-LSW rebuilds, and even Maunsell sets.

Hornby seems to have made ex LSW compartment coaches... 3rd class, etc. I imagine these might be a fit.
Seanem44
I went ahead and picked up birdcage stock, seemed to be a good fit.
