aureol40012
The most ridiculous thing I witnessed during the show was actually late on Friday morning in Anstey. I’d already been to the show using the first train off Leicester and thought I’d pop in to the Signal Box model shop in Anstey on my way home. There was already a group of blokes in there when I entered and one of the shop staff said in a friendly tone “anyone going to the GCR show”. I stood in astonishment as this group of men relayed the fact that they had driven up all the way from Cheltenham for the show but had decided not to go “because of the flooding”. They were prattling on about not wanting to get stuck in the field at Quorn and so they’d decided to go home. They’d come all the way from Cheltenham to be 5 miles from the show just to drive all the way back again. I took great pleasure in relaying my trouble free experience of the show and hassle free parking at Leicester to get the free train to Quorn. One of them meekly said to the driver “we could still go” and the driver said “no, it’s too late now” and went of grumbling to himself in the corner......
RMweb Premium ColinK Posted June 19, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 19, 2019 Although I only had a very brief look round (and missed some of the layouts), for me the most amazing exhibit were the folks building locos and rolling stock from cardboard, awesome. Sounds like the bloke I once heard of visiting the Lavender line at Isfield. He wanted to photograph the Cl.73 they had there at the time, but refusing to pay a nominal visit fee of a couple of quid, he trespassed in a neighbour's field to photograph it through the hedge. He'd driven from Leeds........
RMweb Premium Dava Posted June 19, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 19, 2019 Parking was available at Rothley and Leicester North, limited but not flooded [nor was Quorn]. Train travel included in entry price....

I was somewaht unhappy by the end of the exhibition.. My sound locos aren turned off as they enter the fiddle yard. Dave I agree with this Dave. Don't get me wrong, I like DCC sound, but I think layout operators have to be conscientious and mindful of other exhibitors. It has driven me insane before being next to those seem to revel in having as noisy a layout as possible and the sound as loud as possible, to the point where it can dominate the whole show. Honestly I think that there is sometimes an element of blokes (let's face it is nearly always men) just showing off their fancy toys,or literally exhibitionism for want of a better word! As with most things in life, being considerate of others goes a long way......

There was no problem parking! The main exhibition hall Quorn was fantastic particularly the N gauge layouts. Great to see Tony Wright I have been an admirer since the first week long residential course I attended some years back. What a setting with the noises and smells of the real thing within touching distance. As a paying member of the modelling fraternity I would like to thank every one involved in this event, truly magnificent! A picture I've never seen in a modelling magazine is the dismantling or setting up, the photograph doesn't do justice that side of modelling such as a photograph of moving steam engine doesn't do justice to the preping a steam engine, raising steam, trimming the tender, oiling or emptying the ash. Just as the headaches, sleepless nights coordinating planning etc doesn't go on exhibition at the exhibition. My partner and I both had a fabulous time and look forward to the event next year. A couple of years back we did back at Stafford Railways Circles Exhibition ask one of the members to to take some photographs of the exhibition build on the Friday. If your interested PM me and I will if I can dig them out. Eltel

It makes me so angry to think that there is such animosity and lack of respect for others in this day and age. I really hope the guilty party or parites are caught but the punishment never really fits the crime any more. Very sad

EWS FAN
On 11/06/2019 at 08:55, Chris M said: Whats all this rumour about certain societies and maybe other stands being dropped after booking a space in favour of a large retailer/manufacturer? I was going to go but parking on that field after all this rain - I don't think so. There wasn't any problem with parking on the field despite all of the heavy rain leading up to the show. And as for people moaning about certain societies not being allowed to attend this year, i think it's just sour grapes. If it wasn't for the large traders attending and no doubt paying a large sum of money to do so the admission prices would have to go up to cover the costs. And if you didn't go you missed an excellent show. Edited June 23, 2019 by EWS FAN 1
