GM425 Fordhampton Wind Farm Kit

This is a fully motorised pre-coloured plastic kit of a wind turbine, seen around the country or out at sea. The motor included requires a 12-16v AC supply.

Moulded in 2 colours, the kit can be constructed with a lattice framework, rather than the more commonly seen steel pole if desired.  The kit measures 80 x 80 x 360mm with a depth of 40mm. The blades have a diameter of 220mm.

This motorised kit is a great way to add an interesting talking point to your layout.

RRP £39.50

Probably because the kit is a Faller HO European kit, presumably common in Europe?

Mike.

I have seen hundreds (probably thousands) of wind turbines in mainland Europe. Not a single one like that.

A quick google revealed this "Lattice tower were common in the past when turbine where smaller (lass than a MW), but are seldom used today. Their biggest problems are a notable visual impact, and higher construction and maintenance costs. They have several advantages: they use less materials (about 50% of a standard steel tower with the same stiffness) and they produce less shadow."

It also revealed that there is recent move back towards lattice towers because of the benefit cited above. It appears that lattice towers are common place in the US.
