The Guildford 0 Gauge Group, which organises the Reading Trade Show, suggested that we extend the deadline for discounted orders for the Minerva RTR Class 14 Teddy Bear 0-6-0DH locomotive until the end of the show on Saturday 7th December. We are pleased to announce the deadline has been extended to all orders received by 2359GMT Sunday 8th December 2019. Order forms can be downloaded from the Minerva website at https://www.minervamodelrailways.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/Class-14-Order-Form.pdf or you can place your order at the Minerva stand at the Reading show. We do not take deposits for advance orders and there is no penalty for cancellation.

The final version of the CAD has been approved and the project now goes to tooling.

We have recently been informed that the first engineering prototype should be delivered by the end of March 2020. If it is satisfactory we will progress to the decorated samples and if they pass we would hope to have the locos by late July or early August 2020. However, the recent extension of the Chinese New Year holiday and the closure of the border between Hong Kong and mainland China in order to try to contain the coronavirus may impede progress.

We will keep you posted.

Regards,

Chris K

The retail prices including UK VAT are expected to be:

DC - £290

DCC fitted – £345

DCC and sound fitted - £415

How are these costings holding up in particular for my interest the DCC sound version?

We don't expect the planned prices for the Class 14 to change unless there is a catastrophic devaluation of sterling. Delivery is planned for late July/early August, but the engineering prototype due at the end of March 2020 is delayed by at least a month due to operational problems arising from Coronavirus  travel restrictions between Hong Kong and mainland China and within China.

Chris

I'm gagging to know if these will negotiate R2 Peco points!

I'm not that fussed about tight radius myself, but will reiterate what I put earlier in this thread, that some form of compensation/non-rigid axles is more important over such a long wheelbase (to all intents an 0-8-0) and with my kind of track - which on my UK layout isn't anywhere near as 'bad' as on my US layout, but still has subtle changes of level in a short length.

We don't expect the Class 14 to be able to traverse so-called Peco R2 setrack as it is effectively an 0-8-0. The coupling rods are fully articulated and have a fair amount of side-play. One of the axles will be sprung in the vertical plain to allow for small variations in track. We will experiment with the engineering prototype as soon as it is delivered and will report our findings.

Hi,

Many of you will have seen this on Minerva's website, for those who haven't, there is news;

https://www.minervamodelrailways.co.uk/news/class-14-prototype/

An engineering prototype has been received and project is probably running 3 months late due to Covid 19, hardly surprising.

The photos are lush.

You've missed this thread here on RMweb, then?

;)
