This is the first two coach set for the Plymouth-Launceston services. The pair of coaches are semi-permanently coupled together. They await couplings on the outer ends. 46444 built the BY for Diddington a few years ago. I gave it a bit more weathering, and It's found a new role on Yelverton. Alex Lovely rake there Alex. Nice to see the BY again. Be good to see your weathering tweaks as well on it. The SR CCT/PMV/BY buffers from Mr. Franks of Lanarkshire Model Supplies help to lift these Parkside kits. I've fitted a few sets to examples I've built recently. http://www.lanarkshiremodels.com/lanarkshiremodelsandsupplieswebsite_087.htm I've really enjoyed reading about your build of Yelverton over the past year. Look forwards to seeing it finished in 2021 and on the road eventually.. Merry Christmas Alex. brianusa
Good to see it all coming together, Alex. The train is reminiscent of the ones we used to take from platform 7 at North Road to Shaugh Bridge, years ago. Thanks for the memory! Popular Post wiggoforgold
As my work on Yelverton progressed, I learned more about the site. I found out that the loading bank at the south end of the station was more extensive than I had originally thought, and decided to rework the area. At the same time I decided to model the shed for the WIckham trolley, omitted from the original design. First up, a picture of the area before I made the changes. The new loading bank, with the shelter for the Wickham trolley(s) in the background. The Yelverton shed appears to have been a three road on - I can't think why. An aerial view of the site, with the private lane running behind the station. I still need to do the base of the hedgrow on the right. The site looking towards the station, with the signal box under construction. The gap is because the boards are not currently bolted together so they can be moved about while the layout is being worked on.. 4658 shunts a van into the loading bay. Hoping to get the boards set up this week to test through running. Alex 26

brianusa
A bit late for the real thing! But Alex's model is certainly a good representation as I remember it. A shame about the P/Town line though - more operation? Brian. Edited December 26, 2020 by brianusa

Popular Post wiggoforgold
Yelverton boards are set up again to make sure everything fits together, and to give an idea of what needs doing to add to the overall picture. First, an overall shot of the station, looking towards Tavistock. A closer view. I want to add some more trees on the left. The down platform building. A Tavistock-Plymouth auto train with a 4575 propelling it. Some 4575's were auto fitted. The auto coach is the latest item of stock for the layout. 4555 enters Yelverton with a Plymouth (Tavistock Junction) - Launceston freight. 4574 on a Plymouth - Launceston passenger service. Popular Post wiggoforgold
On page two of this thread, I described the construction of a Pagoda building for Yelverton, using two Wills kits. I wasn't happy with the door, but at the time I wanted to get the basic shape of the buildings done, to assist me in laying out the scenery. I'm now ready to finish off the platforms, so I have reached an appropriate time to complete the station buildings. This is the pagoda with the reworked door. I've also added finials to the roof, changed the chimney, and completed the weathering. The guttering is a first attempt with the new Modelu parts. MrWolf
Nice job! I do like the festering paintwork, where the rust is pushing off half a dozen old paint layers. The Modelu guttering works really well too. I bottled out of stretching my pagoda hut, didn't think that the not so great rooves would join together neatly. Looks like I was wrong!

The first one I cut the end off, the second I cut to the remaining length. They are slightly misaligned at the back, where it cant be seen. The bottom of the moulding is thicker in one corner, which makes complete alignment difficult. However, the moulding is a good start for a curved, corrugated roof, which is better than I could do, so I have happily gone with it.
