MrWolf
I still prefer the 1959 Buick station wagon option tbh... 2

MrWolf
I hadn't thought of that! It would only be right and proper to have a model pine forest in the back and a couple of Shay logging engines winching themselves along with a lot of log hauling flat cars in tow... Damn. Now I'm going to have to build another layout!
Popular Post wiggoforgold
Bit of work on the pannier tank front today. 4658 has at last acquired glazing and coal in the bunker.. It's also acquired a crew, but painting of those isn't quite finished yet. 4658 on Launceston-Plymouth freight, waits for 64xx on Plymouth-Tavistock auto train to enter Yelverton. 64xx on auto train. It will become 6400 when I get some number plates. I change the buffers for sprung ones, but apart from that it is pretty much Bachmann out of the box. I've experimented with screw coupling on this one, rather than my usual DG auto couplings. I reasoned the train is just going to trundle up and down, without any shunting, so I don't need auto couplers on this one. Alex 29

RMweb Gold 46444 Posted January 31, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 31, 2021 Must say Alex this is all looking rather atmospheric. Nice and verdant and the buildings and 45xx set the scene nicely. Looking forwards to further updates. Cheers, Mark 4

Popular Post wiggoforgold
Some trains at the Tavistock end of Yelverton station. First, a 64xx on a Plymouth - Tavistock South auto service. 4574 arrives with a Lunceston-Plymouth passenger service. 4555 on a southbound freight. 4555 was one of the last 45xx class in unlined black, and never received green livery in BR service. Another picture of 4555 passing through the station. 4588 hauls a short up freight. Hoping to be able to set the complete layout up in the garage next week for a running session. Popular Post wiggoforgold
At the Tavistock end of the up platform at Yelverton is a small wooden extension to the platform, that was made when the junction with the Princetown branch was realigned. The infill remained in place after the Princetown branch was closed, so needed to be part of my model. My original idea was to make it from small pieces of balsa, but after seeing Rob's work on Outwool using plastic sheet, paint and powder, I decided to have a go using plastic and powders myself. The platform extension is made from Slaters planked styrene, backed with 10thou to bring it up to the height of the platform edging stones. It was painted Mig "Faded Sinai Grey", and dry brushed with Mig "Old wood". It was then brushed with powders, mainly Humbrol "Smoke" and "Dark Earth", but also Mig "Concrete" Once dry, it was given a coat of matt varnish and glued in place. The platform surface projects beyond the edging stones at this point, to give it some support. Once glued in place, uprights were made from 60thou square Plastruct strip, which were superglued below the edge of the platform extension. Treemendus earth powder was then brushed around the bottom of the uprights and glued in place with dilute pva. Not how I had planned to spend today, but Rob's idea was too good to pass up. MrWolf
Great stuff, is that a trace of moss at the lowest end of the timber? It's also got me thinking about ash surfacing on platforms, because that is where I am at with my own model, having just put a coat of primer on the plasticard surface. 1

Not yet, but there needs to be more undergrowth around the bottom of the supports. The old track bed is going to be fun. By the period of my model, there was lots of vegetation growing through the old ballast, and what had been a nice laurel hedge on the side opposite the platform, was already advancing on to the disused ballast. MrWolf
There was a greenish tint to one of the planks, probably my dodgy phone! Sprouts are more exploding than advancing surely?
