RMweb Premium Ian Smeeton Posted May 13, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 13, 2019 I did this tour a couple of years ago. Well worth the trip, and highly recommended. Unfortunately, those I was with were not keen to go on the Brake Van tour. Next time Regards Ian

hmrspaul
Yes done several times (in addition to official visits to the railway wagons) Incredible trip when permitted to go under the Queens! However, be warned that the Shark brakevan is a very uncomfortable ride - 9ft wheelbase makes it a bucking bronco ride! The heat when passing the loaded molten flask wagons was very welcome when we went - despite being summer it was very chilly! I'll not link to my photos as they don't like photographers - or has that altered with the change of ownership? Paul

Since I'll be travelling a fair way, can anyone tell me if there is parking on site, and also exactly where in the huge steelworks complex I should be aiming for to start the tour! Cheers Alastair
jonhall
go to google maps and type in 'afrps scunthorpe' and the pin is dropped right on the platform, look slightly to the North West, and all of the carparking seen to the west of the 'Main Approach Road' will be virtually empty at the weekend. The train won't come up until just before departure time. Jon
