Jamiel
This photo was one of a set uploaded to the Facebook group Rail Thing of King George VI's funeral train. I have never seen a coach like the 12 wheel one coming in from the left. Is this a Royal Coach, or if not what is it? It has such a striking underframe. 70000 Britannia was at the front of this train (for at least part of the journey). Jamiel
Another view, it is the fourth coach, but pretty out of focus in this shot.
RMweb Premium 31A Posted May 15, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 15, 2019 It's one of the two East Coast Joint Stock Royal Saloons built in 1908, numbers 395 and 396. Both are preserved; 395 is in the National Collection on display in the NRM at York and the 396 is at Bressingham: https://collection.sciencemuseum.org.uk/objects/co205856/royal-saloon-railway-carriage
Jamiel
Thanks for that 31A. From your information I found this photo of one of the coaches at rest. From https://www.gracesguide.co.uk/File:Im1913Eing-GNR-36.jpg I hasn’t seen underframes like that, but perhaps of more interest for modelling is East Coast Joint Stock – First Class Sleeping Carriage No. 165 Not sure it would fit my layout, but maybe worth some research, I do have some ex LNER /Eastern Region trains running and those curved underframes would make quite a distinctive bit of rolling stock. DOCJACOB
Copy not to hand but pretty sure they get a mention in Illustrated History of ECJS by Ken Hoole
giz
There were seven LNER BGs built on secondhand underframes which had similar trussing: https://www.steve-banks.org/prototype-and-traffic/289-lner-npcs-56-6-bg-d-44 It says the underframes came from ECJS sleeping cars so possibly those shown in Jamiel's post.
Steamport Southport
I'm pretty sure RDEB/Wizard make kits of the sleepers. Are these the same ones? My ECJS book isn't at hand. https://www.wizardmodels.ltd/?orderby=price&filter_2_railway_company=ecjs-east-coast-joint-stock-gn-or-ne-or-nb Jason Edited May 16, 2019 by Steamport Southport
