RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted August 16, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 16, 2019 Well good luck, my Dad had a ‘reboot’ a couple of years back and has been much better as a result, seems a lot of other things were being caused by it
enginelane
Last baseboard being stripped down of the former layout and then the task of clearing the space in the garage to start fitting in the boards
enginelane
It did not get any easier but all boards are now bare
enginelane
This is the configuration of the boards that in theory will fit in the garage. However neighbour across the road already commented from his bedroom window it will not fit! Two king boards help in giving boards firm base to build off and able to use a corner board from the donor layout which already drilled for pattern makers dowels and clips. The 4ft gap at the front is going to take more than avbridge to span it! Added bus wires to baseboards so time for lunch! long island jack
Notch the board , add a building, paint the pipe brick red, sorted, for smoke effect, nick pipe and stand back!!!! 1 1
enginelane
Managed to get 3 boards on what will be the fiddleyard installed in the garage so calling it a day and a result! Measuring up it’s says the missing cross board will fit I bet I have to take off the dowels to do it!
enginelane
It’s in! 10 ft by 8ft. 12 ft would have caused too many problems at the top end of the garage but there is enough there for me. Need to relocate the existing electric supply and figure out what can be stored under the boards.
enginelane
Very hot day but garage on north side of the house so pleasant to work in. Mocked up the two pieces either side of the boards which will support the lift out bridge. The additional pieces will have legs added and braces to tie in to the main boards. Gap big enough to get bike, lawn mower etc in. Overbridge makes it clear what company is running the line.
enginelane
Will make a simple shelf to support the removable piece and have a simple plug in system for locating the bridge section and electric point.
enginelane
Addition of the legs greatly aids stability. Feet will have adjusters put on the bottom.
DCB
Six inches higher and the bike could go under the baseboard.
enginelane
But the wife made it perfectly plain she did not intend to duck underneath! re read reply and yes it could but that would mean modifying all the legs and great chance of destroying all Keith’s great wood working skills on the boards Edited August 27, 2019 by enginelane Additional response

DCB
If you can't raise the level you might like to consider a hinged lifting flap. I used car bonnet hinges from a Focus I believe, they are only about 20mm wide or less. Screwed to the side of the baseboard framing they are really rigid and the pivot can be well back from the end of the lifting deck.. This means you can make the deck fit absolutely square on the far end and make the baseboard edge adjustable. I have two in use and although one "lands" on the other we can let someone on or out of the shed in 15 seconds, Wires have a multipin connector but run across from left to right under the pivot and have never given any trouble.
enginelane
Yes it could indeed work out as a hinged piece instead of a lift out. The end of the boards do come close to the end of the garage so would have to check that the hinged piece when up does not hit the door if it was brought down to a closed position. enginelane
Spent time in garage listening to a Red October on audio book whilst doodling some paper strip track plans. Main plan is a double tracked main line with loop at garage door end before becomes single tracked over removeable hinged section. Branch line comes in from the other end onto the loop. A couple of spurs come off the branch creating what might become a stone yard.
enginelane
Spent the morning refining the track plan and currently on the main visible part of the layout represents a double track (H) that becomes single track over a bridge. (f) To allow faster trains to pass a loop has been laid of which a small 2 spur yard is sited ( D) A line comes in from the right hand side representing another line so interchange traffic can be made. (G) There are spurs to lumber and building supplies (A) as well as to ware housing facilities.( B) A stone yard ( E) is sited off the interchange line to prepare stone from the quarries from further down the line. There is a short spur that acts as a refuelling line ( C) and to store laid over locos.
enginelane
Looks like may need a cross over half way down the main straight between the up and down lines and curve the spurs to the warehousing a little more. Looks more complicated that I had hoped to will spend a little time this morning working out some moves before going any further
enginelane
Picked up some bits and pieces today that will help complete the layout, just waiting for the cork to arrive to be laid down before can move any further with track laying. enginelane
Waiting for another delivery before layout can progress further but boards now all levelled up, proposed plan triple checked so time to have a go at building this kit from Williams Bros. Will appear at the lumber building supplies
