RTI is back on the market, so it's time for a new entry here:

Here is my post war Royal Navy refuller AEC Mammouth Major 6 Mk III

These behemoths were still in use at RNAS Yeovilton in the mid 70s, such was the funding priority of the FAA.

Detachment to Sennybridge Camp (119 miles) took two days to drive thanks to the ever present possibility of rolling over due to the high centre of gravity which precluded speed above 25mph on major roads and 15mph on twisty bits.

The lack of organic transport meant that we deployed with hired National Carriers trucks, bright yellow, which matched the colour of the bowser.

Happy days

No conversions with Airfix kits at the moment, so here we have a complete RTI kit:

A Leyland Beaver with 17ft 6 inch chassis and a cylindrical beer tanker:

Oh, oh Airfix, you have a affair with Matchbox / Revell:

Austin K6 with the body from Montys caravan, okay not absolute correct, but nice.

The body was originally mounted on a Lancia truck chassis and used by General (Electric whiskers) Graziani. This was captured by the British and the body mounted on the Leyland. The Lancia was fitted with solid tyres which is maybe why the body was fitted to the Leyland.

They even reproduced some features from when the body was mounted on the Lancia such as the slight curve in the sides where the wheel arches intruded. If you look carefully you can see the indentation just forward of the rear wheel.

New year, time for a new entry.

The Airfix recovery set with the Queen Mary trailer was the base for these conversion.

The Bedford TK (here the JB-Airfix cab) but RTI has the same with a Queen Mary trailer.

A little bit Airfix, a little bit RTI (chassis) and a little bit from the stash, and we have a Bedford OYC water bowser:

It is a little bit freestyle, but for me okay.

When we have the Harvard, we need an Air Traffic Control truck, nobody made one.

So here comes the Airfix Matador with a new body, with some parts from matchbox and a checkerboard decal from Revell.

BTW, the Willys is the Matchbox kit.
