I'll post these over a couple of pictures, but thought they may be of interest to people who couldn't make it. I had a wander to the GOG event at Doncaster Dome today - great venue for me, but oh god is parking a nightmare!  Im no longer a GOG member, but anyone that is may wish to suggest they look at Doncaster Racecourse next year..

Anyway some shots.  Layouts to follow subsequently.

Dapol has their Autotank on show .. they were saying August for delivery.

I didn't photograph everything with all the manufactures, just picked out a couple of things that interested me, and might interest a number on here...

Greenway Model Products had a few different things on show.

On the Tower Collection stand, although I gather a separate company to them was Signature, whom I think are a new kit manufacturer.  Very interesting and help chap on the stand, who was more than happy for the two demo ICI hoppers to be photographered.

The info sheet on the table said "Produced with the latest technology" these can be supplied in kit form with wheels and transfers, or ready-to-run.  Noprices, they were asking people to enquire as the pricing hadn't quite been settled yet, but did say that full rakes of eight wagons (either Kit or RTR) were bundle pricing.

I forgot to ask if he was happy for his email address and contact details to be put online, so if anyone wants them, PM me and I'll respond with the details.

Very nice wagons, quite heavy with a brass frame to the underframe and looked superb, very detailed.  RTR could also be supplied weathered.

Finally, some of the layouts... Only three or four because the event is primarily trade support of course.  Apologies to one layout owner/operator, it was only a small layout and five or six people around it every time I looked, so didn't get any pictures!  I forgot to say - in all cases the layout owners were asked if photography was ok!

Thanks for the great pics, especially the layouts buddy. I went last year despite not being a 7mm bid and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Parking can be a challenge, however the place to park is not The Dome. Opposite The Dome is a large amount of parking space for the Vue Cinema, Bowling, a Pub and TJ Fridays or something like that; opposite Asda. It has been free in the past but I've not parked there recently so there may now be a charge. However this is Donny so that charge won't be a lot.

Too late for you I am sorry, but maybe next time

Thanks, your welcome! Doncaster is almost on my doorstep and I really should have known that!!  Always got parked at the Dome car park in the end, usually after being patient for 4-5 minutes, but today was just chock-a-block!

Thanks.. .I went there and was initially frustrated by the signage (lack of) and parking (ditto).

I put a link to this page from the GoG site. Hope that's OK.

I was good this year, I left the credit card at home and came back with the same amount of cash as I went with (well minus the entry fee!)

Would anyone know who produces the turntable please ?

Park has beaten me to it, yes it was Greenwood.  Looked very well done and very well put together.  I was going to ask, but the chap was busy with various people, but I think the black mechanism in the second and four turntable shots is the motorising unit for it.

Do you know, I hadn't noticed that!  The chap that owns this layout was really interesting to talk to. Lanwick Halt (Not sure about Halt for a terminus station, but hey) is only 12 foot long (including fiddle yard) and was 22" wide if I remember rightly.  Ok, in some respects limited operating potential, but in other respects an awful lot of movements you could do.  Two roads went out the fiddle yard, and a lead from one of them lead to a small warehouse that hid the fiddle yard from view.  Even when nothing was moving there was plenty of detail of look at and it really made the layout look longer and wider than it was.

Hmm, I am not so sure .. all the adjacent passengers seem to have turned their backs!  If it was a firewoman, we could have a proposal on our hands I suppose.... :)

Suppose that back in the day the layout represents it would not have been a firewoman and thus it also can not be two blokes as it was forbidden (in public?) so I surmise that the kneeling chap is looking for his ticket or a sixpence that he has dropped.

It could, of course, be an enthusiast begging the fireman to get the driver of his train to get a bit if a move on down the main so that he could report it in Trains Illustrated.

Think in the interests of family reading, I'd go with the latter one ... now where are my 1960s copies of Trains Illustrated to see if he was successful..... :)

Not sure how they filled up, but there were two or three brand new car parks on the south side of the complex. Also, looking beyond the security fencing  , there appear to be another two or three under construction beyond the main car park. Hopefully better next year. It is rare these days to find anywhere that is increasing parking as cash strapped councils sell off land for development and claim a victory for carbon reduction. Signage is another issue.

Last year there was another event on at THE DOME and it involved kids. The ice rink and swimming complex are hugely popular with families at half term and school hols (is half term here). The other car parks may not be anything to do with The Dome as a car auction and or sales place has recently been raised ad is now being rebuilt and expanded. There is also a Hotel round there that has functions I believe as well as some sort of place of worship IIRC. If racing is on, some folk choose to park around The Dome as well to avoid the cramped car park opposite the Race Course familiar to Donny Show folk.

Those mentioned in my post are all within the dome site. Due to a lack of signage you need to know they are there as they are accessed from the service road rather than the main car park entrance.

Please be advised that Signature Kits have been going for a long time albeit in a small scale we also have the Tyne Dock Hopper in our stable of products and other potential releases in the pipeline for the next 12 - 18 months so watch this space. As regards the ICI Hoppers shown below, we are indeed reviewing the pricing structure with a view to making it a little more competitive. However I will say that the product has been built from the original production engineering drawings from the Charles Roberts archives at the NRM plus site visits to review and investigate all the nuances of the wagons in the flesh and the finish product reflects this aspect. We also supply the decals for the ICU Hopper wagons across all time periods and we are currently look to add the diamond framed bogies to the offering so that we have the whole history of the variants for all the time period from construction to final withdrawal.
