I'am sure your old local chippy had a better menu than that.

You mean that long gone old chippy two doors from Bolton st.

Used to serve loco ash fritters, fried in Diesel Hydraulic brake fluid, wrapped in footplate rags, flavoured with a sprinkling of sand and grease.

Them were th’ days, no cup cakes round there, but there were rumours of one down stairs.

Can we have a Yuck button please?

Cod, chips, and mushy peas is the food of gods and emperors. This is true, for I just said it.

Gosh, it can't be long at this rate before we get to pie barms.

BTW, cod, chips and mushy peas may well be the food of gods and emperors, but believe me, when you've worked nights alongside a bloke who regularly ate them stone cold on his break at 2am, the memory of that never leaves you.

I have had the delights of being introduced to a food called Om Ali this week and it is wonderful. It is the Qatari version of bread pudding, but more exotic.

Very tasty...

If it contains sultanas it is wrong by definition. Just so's you know.

Common throughout the Arab world, on most Egyptian restaurants menus.(in Egypt!)

Look out for shakshouka & kusheri (variously spellings)

Kusheri is where kedgeree comes from but does not contain fish.

I disagree, young Truffy.  sultanas & raisins in my bread pudding please. My mother used to make it, and I used to love it. When my sister had her pub, the one & only winter weather pudding was bread pudding, smothered with custard.  30-odd Sunday dinner sittings can't be wrong!

Bread & butter pudding? far too rich. Mushy peas? Alright in small doses, with salt, pepper & vinegar, and a load of chips.....
