And it is on quite a curve as well, which can't have helped.

I would have loved to have been there in steam days just to see the ACE get pushed up there fully loaded on a Summer Saturday by a couple of 0-8-0T locos.

Was anyone aboard this trip?

15th April 1995 and 5176 is seen at Orpington with the final public run by an EPB unit, 5001 at the other end in this photo.

10th March 1984, The Conwy Crusader featured 3 Class 40s at various times and was my first railtour: https://www.sixbellsjunction.co.uk/80s/840310cc.htm

40029 is seen near Warrington (taken by a friend as I was on the train!), D200/40122 at Llandudno and 40047 at Blaenau Ffestiniog (50018 was also on the train at this point, but not photographed).

No, but I did film it at London Bridge at the start, and funnily enough have just backed up the orginal video tape to computer drive this week.

50034 and 50035 at Newquay on October 4th 1987. This was a BR arranged trip advertised as the last locomotive-hauled train to Newquay. It ran from Paddington to Newquay and back via the Berks & Hants.

The Welsh Wonder railtour was run twice towards the end of 1978.

Both trips began at Paddington and featured runs along the same South Wales freight only branches to Blaenavon, Uskmouth, and Bargoed.

This photo is from the second tour on December 2nd, and shows 20022 and 20112 running round the train at Uskmouth.

This is the 'East Midlander no 5' at York on 13th May 1962.  The tour ran from Nottingham Victoria to Darlington; out via Darnall and back via Newark and Bottesford.

The locos here are 30925 and 40646. 90348 shunted the train in the Darlington area.

After a lengthy bit of detective work - not helped by the train reporting number obscuring the loco smokebox number- I have deduced this is Fowler 2P 40657 at Rickmansworth Church Street station on the 12th March 1961.

The tour (by the Branch Line Society) ran from St Pancras to Watford Junction behind 44575, where the 2P took over for the run to Rickmansworth via Watford High Street. It then returned to Junction station but continued on to St Albans Abbey where 44575 took over again for the return to St Pancras via Colney Heath, Hatfield, Finsbury Park, Stratford, Temple Mills, Junction Road Junction and Kentish Town.

This is what I miss about today's railways, as most of the complex junctions and freight only lines have been removed and I was too young to travel on these intricate roundabout railtours.

A little camera shake, sadly; but this is 35012 'United States Lines' arriving at Penrith on the Solway Ranger rail tour of June 13th 1964.

The RCTS tour ran from Leeds and featured travel along a number of branch lines in Cumbria (or Cumberland as it was probably called at that time) by a variety of locomotives and a DMU before 35012 returned to Leeds with the train.

This is an interesting photo. 92238 at Evercreech Junction on June 12th 1965.

The loco was working a Warwickshire RS tour from Birmingham Snow Hill to Bournemouth and Eastleigh Works.  Allegedly the 9F was not in good fettle

Amazingly, a b/w negative of this scene has recently sold for £6 on Ebay.

'Rubber Special'

Is that because they expected to sell a lot of prophylactics in Blackpool that evening or because all the staff worked at an eraser company?

Or was it a Beatles Magical Mystery Tour?
