RMweb Premium keefer Posted June 6, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 6, 2019 was trying to think why RES would need a brake van, not being a 'freight' operator as such and working with NPCCS (BGs had a guard's compt.) While looking through DaveF's photo thread today there was mention of Bristol 08s working with a van (initially it was to do with triggering track circuits, much like 03s and their match-trucks, but only until the early '70s.) Dave's post of Bristol in 1989: https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/85326-dave-fs-photos-ongoing-more-added-6th-june/&do=findComment&comment=1778096 Johnny777 then posted a pic from 1992 - https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/85326-dave-fs-photos-ongoing-more-added-6th-june/&do=findComment&comment=1778782 I take it the sort of work the shunter did involved more of a crew for some reason, for this to remain commonplace
