British Rail wooden platform

Recommended Posts

Hello

I can think of two,

The first is Monks Risborough on the Princes Risborough to Aylesbury branch.  Back in the timeframe that you are looking at, this was only one coach long, so you had to be in the first coach of the class 115 unit to be able to get on or off.  This changed later in the late 1990s when it was rebuilt to accommodate at least 4 coaches, but is still wooden, but has concrete supports.

The second is Lake on the Isle of Wight, which is between Sandown and Shanklin, it was opened in 1987.

Thanks

Dorking North.

I know, because I fell base over apex on it on a frosty morning, when the planks formed a highly effective skating rink!

It can now be quite difficult to spot wooden platforms, because they are usually surfaced with something a tad safer, either a coating or sheet material with fine aggregate epoxied to it, but there are plenty still in situ.
