How to model arches at Crewe station.

Thanks everyone. I'm looking at either 3d or making a master and creating a mould. I'm guessing that 3d is the easiest route but also very expensive.

If you do get them 3d printed I'd happily buy a set.

At the risk of harping on I'd be making a 3D prototype then casting it - it really isn't as daunting as it sounds, you can use lego to make the mould and silicone moulding kits are cheap and available from wargaming supply places amongst other art supply retailers... Be a lot cheaper than 3d prints.

Thanks again for all your help. I'm now looking at either a 3D design or scratching a master. Either way I reckon I'll be pouring rubber! I've co designed 3D tram bodies in O scale and these prints are expensive for sure. (I don't own a 3D printer)

These arches would quickly mount up in price given the volume of material that would be required if I solely used 3D. There are 2 basic designs... open and bricked up. I think they'd look great with glimpses of the train on the other side. Reminiscent of my youth as a Crewe boy back in the 1960s in fact.

Next issue is getting the correct dimensions. Being in Australia it's difficult to go and have a quick sizing expedition. In the end I'm not the type that needs to have it dimensionally spot on. I'd rather capture the character faithfully.

All help and guidance is always welcome and appreciated.

Craig.

Being as you're in Australia, where anything remotely specialist tends to be expensive, I reckon I'd be making with the mounting card and the scalpel for a master and looking at something like builders bog from Bunnings to do the actual castings.

Have it drawn up in a 3D CAD program and have it 3D printed. I can help you with that and also direct you to a good chap who can 3D print it at a high resolution without costing an arm and a leg.

Usual disclaimer....just a happy customer!

HTH?

Cheers!
