Wolf27
I thought it was time to start an On My Work Bench type thread instead of posting in boards such as Heljan class 45 or Dapol 08, things get buried in there. This should keep all my 7mm stuff together. Cheers Shane
Wolf27
First up is my latest completed work, this started off with a Heljan 25/1 body. Those horrid cabs need to go as I personally couldnt get on with them, they just looked wrong to me. I know its been subject to much debate in a few places and its each to their own. I bought a pair of cabs from MM1 models, ex JLTRT, along with the fuel and boiler water tanks and chassis. For the bogies I used Heljan spare and is traction is from Delrin drive parts with Peartree wheels. First cab taped in place with the original cab sat on the deck Untitled by Shane Wilton, on Flickr The basic parts all thrown together Untitled by Shane Wilton, on Flickr Body mods to suit the particular loco I was replicating, boiler grille and steps plated over, hinges on bodyside grilles (on one side only) Untitled by Shane Wilton, on Flickr cheers Shane 5
Wolf27
Now the painting stage is reached with a coat of all over primer grey Untitled by Shane Wilton, on Flickr Yellow ends applied Untitled by Shane Wilton, on Flickr and finally the blue Untitled by Shane Wilton, on Flickr cheers Shane 6 1

Wolf27
Almost finished, had some light weathering and now just waiting for windscreens and wipers to be fitted. Untitled by Shane Wilton, on Flickr And finally all done! Untitled by Shane Wilton, on Flickr Untitled by Shane Wilton, on Flickr All in all a very enjoyable project that came out really well. Its not fully detailed but I'm happy with it as its life will be spent plodding round the garden! cheers Shane Edited June 10, 2019 by Wolf27 15

Wolf27
A brace of 20's. 20141 First up is a partial repaint of a heavily weathered green small yellow end liveried example. I used a jar of yellow that looked simply awful, way to bright and added to that I got the proportions of the nose yellow wrong. The over zealous weathering was removed from the roof as it was almost black and the sides cleaned up a little. Untitled by Shane Wilton, on Flickr Untitled by Shane Wilton, on Flickr The wrongly proportioned nose end yellow Untitled by Shane Wilton, on Flickr Second attempt with an improved shade of yellow, now numbered 20141, which was one of the last locos to carry its original green paintwork. It still needs headcodes and completion on the weathering Untitled by Shane Wilton, on Flickr Edited February 7, 2020 by Wolf27
Wolf27
20180 This is no more than a standard Heljan weathered BR blue example numbered as 20180. The photos i have seen show an oddly spaced numbering in this side. I removed the cabside BR symbol to the later bodyside position on this side Untitled by Shane Wilton, on Flickr On the other side K kept the BR symbol on the cabside and just added the numbers for a bit of variety. Wolf27
The third and final 20 is a bit special, this was a repaint from a green small yellow end livery version Grey primered by Shane Wilton, on Flickr Red solebar and yellow ends added Untitled by Shane Wilton, on Flickr Untitled by Shane Wilton, on Flickr Now for some blue Untitled by Shane Wilton, on Flickr And voila, by Shane Wilton, on Flickr cheers Shane Edited February 7, 2020 by Wolf27
Wolf27
If you havent worked it out, this is what it has become. Untitled by Shane Wilton, on Flickr It will have a coat of matt varnish once the rain has stopped and then some distressing to complete it. Quite a few 20's had wider spaced numbers as you note.
Wolf27
Not done much 7mm modeliing of late but I knocked up a 40 from spares and a set of class 45 bogies on a much modified Heljan 45 chassis, still got work to do on it but its another runner to the fleet. All Heljan parts with the cab windscreens modified to increase the rake. You can't just chuck that comment in and leave it at that!! The windscreen rake really spoils the Heljan model - so what did you do to correct it? People need to know!!
deltic17
I did my class 40 too. Cut the windows out across the bonnet and across the roof and a bit of bodyside so that it slopes back at the correct angle and then filler, sand, filler, sand etc, etc. It does take a while but in my eyes is worth it as it now looks like a 40!

Wolf27
The other items of rolling stock that were worked on were a couple of DMU's. First is a Heljan 128 that I bought part finished from Salty. He bought this as a painted body shell and he made the chassis and fitted the underframe gubbins. I made up the bogies and got it mobile. I have another that I am building from spares so this one is unpowered. Untitled by Shane Wilton, on Flickr The other job was to paint up a lovely Bachmann Brassworks Met Cam 101. I was tempted to keep it all brass but it was crying out to be painted. So be it. Untitled by Shane Wilton, on Flickr Untitled by Shane Wilton, on Flickr Untitled by Shane Wilton, on Flickr Untitled by Shane Wilton, on Flickr I now have the interior for it so may get round to finishing it! cheers Shane Edited January 19, 2020 by Wolf27 rubbish spelling 2
