Thanks Hi Keith It was a trail unit converted in 1957 using flat Paxman engines, same as fitted to the Claytons, and electric transmission. The coaches M9821M and M9828M were converted ex LMS steel bodied period 1 open third brakes Dia D1746 mounted on LMS Euston- Watford EMU bogies. They were never intended as passenger carrying vehicles, only for testing. They proved to be too heavy and too expensive compared to the diesel mechanical units being introduced at the same time.
