Hi All,

I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of one of the new Gauge 1 Kiss BR 120s! I've ordered one of the Orientrot production series versions. Frankly I can't wait, it's been many years since the new model was first announced. Anyone else gone for one?

kind regards,

Thomas.

Hi Thomas,

Lucky you! It's a long time since I dipped my toe in Spur 1 waters so I didn't even know that KISS were doing one.

Orientrot is almost certainly the prettiest livery for one of these gorgeous locos, what (if anything) will you hang on the back?

Cheers,

John.

PS No, I cannot afford one, sorry!

Hi John,

thanks, yes it should have a great deal of presence on my limited space layout. Suitable coaching stock of high quality in late Epoch IV / V is tricky to find I think. Not the biggest fan of Kiss’ coaches either.

I’ve been on a bit of an Epoch II kick lately (for German Steam, I’m a DRG man) - I’ve had some incredibly beautiful coaches from Wunder recently in (nothing else comes close to their quality I’ve found).

So, for now the BR 120 will be traveling light engine only.

Hi Thomas, hope you're happy with your Spur 1 Kiss BR 120.

Over the years I've purchased a number of their Spur 2m models and must say that I'm pleased with what I've got. Most recent new arrival is the DFB HG 3/4 Rack loco:

For me this is a special model as I saw the original locomotive rotting away in Dalat  in the Central Highlands of Vietnam when I was living in Saigon in 1968/69:

and when I visited the DFB in Switzerland in the early 2000s the loco that was hauling the train I was on was the same locomotive that I had seen in Vietnam many years ago. I took copies of the pictures in Vietnam with me and was able to take some matching pictures in Switzerland:

Hope you get as much enjoyment out of your Kiss locos as I do mine!!

Hi Keith,

thanks for showing your 2m Swiss lok - it looks great. I’d love a separate 2m layout, but I don’t have the space. 2m is such a great and impressive size. I spent a lot of time in Ticino, Switzerland in earlier times, where my Father had a house, but that was still only the 1990s-2000s, so i didn’t see any steam.

here are a couple of quick photos of the BR 120 - initial impressions are very positive. The photos don’t make it look like much, but in reality in gauge 1, it has real grace and huge presence. Now I must fight off the urge to preorder Wunder‘s forthcoming BR 111!

That looks lovely! Every now and then I’m lucky enough to have one of these turn up on my ride to/from work instead of the ubiquitous BR101s.
