Actually I found it a bit too big. This was my first visit for about 20 years and in those years I've become older and slower. As I came with an organised coach party my time at the exhibition was limited to about six hours which meant that I was unable to visit all the layouts and trade stands that I wanted to. This is in no way critical of the show or organisers as IMHO it was a very good show, just that I now cannot justify going to such large shows.

You can always buy a two day ticket :)

Thanks Mike,

I've just looked at the thread for this layout. Good grief!

Is the NEC big enough?

Graham

If not they can set Heaton Lodge Junction up on the runway across the road at Birmingham International Airport !!!!!!!

I think anyone would struggle to see all of it in one day. That's one reason why you can buy weekend tickets, allowing admission on both days. Although that's only practical if you either live locally or can stay overnight, of course.

Personally, I accept that I'm not going to see everything. I focus on the layouts (and some trade stands) that I'm unlikely to see at any other exhibition in the region, and the highlights recommended to me by others. That's one of the advantages of going on the Sunday - a quick scan of the relevant RMweb topic before setting off gives me plenty of ideas! I tend not to bother at all with the layouts I've seen before, unless they really are showstoppers that demand repeat viewings. And even Warley has very few of those.

I saw very few layouts I only saw the backs on lots of people, there are a few on this thread I would like to have seen but the only ones I could see were a couple of TMDs and a hand of god, and a few little happening.

Tempted to not bother again as I can't even see the railways.

Irrelevant IMHO.

The problem is that if there was only one layout at the NEC it would still only have, say, 15 feet, of viewing area, so once you've got above 250 people attending you're shafted.

Particular highlights for me were Mauch Chunk, Norwich Central and Modbury.

I thought the Swindon layout looked good, but the two times I stopped to look, a few hours apart on Sunday, it seemed afflicted with derailments. Probably

just bad timing as I've not seen any other adverse comments.

I thought the trade support was good, with the right balance between RTR and specialist suppliers.

Maybe some patience would be in order?

Was just not worth it, been before and able to see railways, but when 3 deep it could be half hour wait to see.

Never had this anywhere else.

Being a new exhibitor to Warley with Lindon Road I was really pleased with the outcome. We were well look after, access into the hall was well controlled and easy as was the packing up and leaving. The layout was packed up by 5.30 p.m. and after getting the car from the East Car Park and getting access into the void behind the show - there being no queue - we left around 6.15 and were clear of the site and on to the M42 by 6.30. My helper and myself had a really great time and many thanks to the Warley club members who worked so hard and also to the NEC staff who we found pleasant and helpful. Lindon now packed away - next show is Bristol Thornbury.

I'm assuming that the US North East Corridor layout that featured in a couple of photos on this thread is an HO one?

Not seen any metion of that before, particularly as I thought I was fairly "odd" for modelling such things in N Gauge!

Yes it was HO and in the November issue of Continental Modeller too. Belongs to a German group, nice friendly bunch too.

Hello I liked the layout i am the show organiser for the model club in Alton Hampshire. I was there with my own layout so i was unable to pop over to chat. Do you have any layout information sheets at all for Linden Road?

'I hope those bemoaning the lack of a layout with WOW factor have booked tickets for next year when a certain little 0 gauge layout will be in attendance?'

It was a last minute trip and 180 miles each way from south Essex where I live and I couldn't justify the cost of an overnight stay.

Phil, was it a club you went with? I'm in Essex too, just wondered.

Steve.

The Paras at Goose Green had smaller rucksacks than that :o

The trick for next year is for the Stewards to herd all those with rucksacks into a separate queue, where there are two choices:

(a) Stick your rucksack in the creche, or

(b) Submit to a very thorough (i.e. takes ages) security check of the contents.....

Incidentally, was there any security checks of bags?
