RMweb Gold TravisM Posted June 23, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 23, 2019 I’ve recently obtained a Bachmann 44-126 Single Road Servicing Shed which I believe is based on the servicing point at Peterborough. I’m thinking of building small layout based on the servicing shed in the EWS era or 1970’s but information and pictures are sadly lacking, including Flickr. Anyone able to help? rob D2
There’s actually a lot on Flickr . You could probably model both eras fairly easily. track plan hasn’t changed that much , see google earth.

RMweb Gold TravisM Posted March 20, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 20, 2020 I’ve decided to resurrect this thread as I’m currently housebound due to fighting (and winning) against skin cancer and I had a small heart attack in the beginning of the year. I’m in the process of getting some Tim Horne baseboards to give me a small layout of approximately 12ft x 1ft which I can easily manage and recreate my version of the Peterborough LIP set between the summer of 2018 and 2019. The reason for this is, I have a number of EMT Class 153’s, 156’s and the new Bachmann 158 which will run back and forth and the liveries on DBC, DRS, Freightliner and GBRf loco’s were fairly stable though the odd “special liveried version” might crop up. I do have a Bachmann model of 66720 which will take pride of place. Naturally it won’t be exact, more a representation with short passenger trains shuttling back and forth, loco’s coming off either the DBC or GBRf fuelling points and short infrastructure trains running between Peterborough and March. It gives me something to “play with” whilst stuck at home and I’ll add pictures as I progress. 1
rob D2
Best of luck, there’s about a million EWS peterborough stabling points out there courtesy of the Bachmann shed , look forward to your version, but I’d be making it 1996-2002 when the traction was a tad more interesting

Basically it will have the shed in the background with lines coming off it in each direction plus the passenger line that the Lincoln - Peterborough platform 1 in the foreground. I also want to show the line branching off towards the old Eastfield sidings that GBRf use. I’m hoping to model from Mayor’s Walk bridge towards the Westfield Road bridge which I know I can’t get in because of the distance. So to get round the obstacle, tall trees and shrubs in the former yard will hopefully hide the train disappearing into the distance. RMweb Gold TravisM Posted March 24, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 24, 2020 The baseboards arrived today and I’ll start to assemble them soon, (just got to find somewhere who will sell me some PVA ). I’ve attached some pictures taken by me of the prototype and of what I’m hoping to achieve. I’m not sure if I’ll go as far to add the Eastfield signal box but I’ll certainly be adding a mainline with OHLE catenary.
RMweb Gold TravisM Posted April 5, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 5, 2020 I’ve finally built the Tim Horne baseboards, did some basic track planning and thought I’d share some pictures of the progress so far and be interested in any constructive criticism or suggestions. I’m wondering if I should get some legs built or use several IKEA “billy” bookcases.
37038
Looks good so far. With regard legs - if the layout is staying at home, then bookshelves would likely be more useful for storing 'stuff', rather than having to fit boxes etc between legs. I’ve decided not to go ahead with the layout as is because it just seemed too “crowded” so I’ve postponed for now until I can build a layout with wider baseboards. I’m using the baseboards to recreate my long demolished local station on the Peterborough to Northampton line, so I’m modelling in the present day and as if the line had never closed. I’ve also taken onboard what you say about bookcases and I think I’ll invest in several IKEA “Billy” bookcases.
Jonsie66
I see you have postponed the building of Peterborough LIP for now but should you one day start the project up again I have attachted a couple of images taken 15/03/20 that may come or may not help your good self when you are looking at the finer details. Regards, James.
