The road/rail rigs seen used in the states are a pretty cool solution. I imagine they cost a lot less than a road switcher, are suited to light work, can drive to their destination without needing a signalling path, and can run around a train without requiring pointwork.

The interestesting thing about that was they used Marklin Track with steel studs & magnets fitted to the 2-rail locomotives to aid traction.

Maybe, that's where DCCConcepts got the idea for their Powerbase.
