Could anyone with the Peco kit take some basic measurements for me please, I'm looking to do one in H0 scale for my HR micro layout as its perfect for what I need.

Width, height, depth, height to windows and window height if possible, please, I can then convert from 4mm to 3.5mm and have a go at scratchbuilding one.

TIA

The chap who is doing HR and GNSR buildings has added a goods shed and water tower to the laser cut range and they can be obtained from Pop Up Designs. Don't be put off by the somewhat basic look on screen - they scrub up well with a little work and turn in to rather nice models.

In the end I roughly worked out dimensions from number of planks and the rest by 'if it looks right'

So my H0 version is now done, Evergreen car siding and microstrip (lots and lots of microstrip). It might not be as detailed and 100% accurate, but it looks the part. It'll get planted on Dounreay (my FNoS micro terminus) in due course.

Further to Ben Alders post above, I contacted pop up designs and asked if they had an plans to release any of their other models in N gauge as I was especially interested in the highland goods shed.

They responsed very quickly and they advised of their concerns over a few area's. To my suprise they gave me access to the CAD design and I gave my feedback on how to tweak it to work better in N. I must stress that I am only a novice and so any flaws you may have in the product are likely to be mine.

The product is now available from their shop https://www.popupdesigns.co.uk/shop/

I have not had a chance to build it yet but from opening the box, the kit looks lovely.

i would recommend dropping them a line if you need anything as I cant fault their service.

I also cannot fault their service. I ordered online one of their Highland sheds AFTER midday but it still arrived the next morning in the post.

Following the link to Pop Up Designs 'definate (definite?) maybe' provided on Monday, I looked at their website.

I was astonished to see a range of buildings of the railway companies in the north of Scotland, including what looks like an exquisite model of Grantown on Spey East railway station. This certainly warrants wider spreading around in the model railway community!

I'd be interested to see photos of completed models, but not on this particular (Peco) thread!  Meantime here is the direct link to their railways and transport catalogue page

The 3D and laser kits are in the hands of a father and son seperate business operation and while the laser side is settled the 3D section is still in arrangement, slowed up by the son turning out protective masks at the moment. Once things have settled and he has worked out a pricing structure a seperate topic will be done giving this interesting development  a place of its own.

Interesting you speak about the pricing structure. As I said above I bought the Highland shed a couple of weeks ago. They charged me £45 but I see it is now on the website for £30 !

Still can`t fault their service though and hope they do more Highland buildings.

He was supplying his ranges to the trade so a retail mark up was part of the price structure, but I know he was planning doing direct sales only. Whether this is the railway side only I don't know, but he felt the buildings were too specialised for his usual outlets and because of the size, pricey, so he must have removed this margin from the railway side of things. Additions to the range are planned by Iain - I have fed him every HR drawing I can find and a GNSR buff is doing similar apparently for that railway - so fingers crossed....

I wasn`t really complaining, I think it is great that they are doing so many Scottish railway buildings, especially those suitable for the northern routes. Not before time as my scratch building isn`t really up to it. I am taking your advice and using the Shed as a starting point and cladding it with various plastic sheeting. etc

They had a TV though. Hence the big aerial on the side....

;)

I assume the lack of chimney is down to having electrical heating fitted.

I've just picked up one of these delightful kits. Before building it I was wondering what colour it should be painted.

I aim to model the late 70s/early 80s and have seen a variety of colours on photographs (although appreciate that different films/cameras may show them differently).

Some appear to be painted black and white, some appear to be light blue with dark blue details, but whereas the official building colors were brown and cream, with light blue. I appreciate that being this far from London things may have taken a more local approach, but I am rather confused as to what was going on. Any help would be appreciated

Hi Sean, whilst it doesn't directly answer your question as it's either side of your period this photo here shows the one at Helmsdale as White and blue in 1972 https://andrewstransport.smugmug.com/LesTindalls1970sBritishtrains/Orcadian-railtour-1972/i-KPTPfGR and in David Price's 'Kyle of Lochalsh and the Far North Lines' book there is a photo of a large logo blue 37 passing the same box in 1988 and it's white and blue in that too.

Helmsdale South Signal Box. 1984.

1984, you might not get much better info than included on this image

Thank you for your responses. I think it's safe to say that blue and white would be an appropriate colour.

Looking at that Flickr link from PMP, Brora and Helmsdale were in white/blue; Rogart in light blue/blue; and Invergordon in white/black. So I suppose any could be appropriate.

Many thanks
