Looking great Jack! Very common go to see various different shades of Evergreen green dependent on how old the box is!

Thanks! Isn't it!

More containers have arrived. A friend of mine has some spare containers he can't use on his liner train, so I'll have them to finish the yard off. Another Evergreen, and two Maersk ones for some variety.

I've also been trying to fix a track defect that's been throwing my Accura 37 off. Where the outer loop's superelevation starts, the inside rail's dipped a bit too much. Most trains have coped, but it has been troublesome at times. A simple job of getting rid of some ballast, packing card, and then topping it with fresh stuff will do the trick.

First little update of the year! Nothing major, but nevertheless...

Part of a Christmas gift I received was an ATD Models kit of a messroom and stores hut. These two small buildings went together very nicely and I think they suit the space I've put them in too.

They look good Jack. Regarding the hardstanding, Fab Foam from Hobbycraft works well and is cheap!

Czech me out!

I'm now expecting the "what the hell have you done, Jack?" comments! Well, think no more. It basically stems back to an original thought years ago - I've always wanted something Continental to run on the layout. No particular reason, other than 'it's something different'. However, Roco's latest catalogue appeared on my Facebook feed, and one thing lead to another, and I saw someone selling a good condition Ceske Drahy (Czech state railway company) 7-coach Railjet pack, and someone else selling the matching Taurus engine. Both being UK sellers too! Thankfully, payday was the same week, and a few taps on my phone later, I was the new owner...

I've been to the Czech once, and loved it. Gorgeous livery, brilliant variety of trains, and I couldn't really turn this down! Plus I've got stock like an extra Bachmann LM 350 that are redundant and just gathers dust, so they'll be moved on in time to fund this.

The model in question is HO scale (naturally), and all made by Roco. It's not the budget-end Piko release, but it's not the dog's dangles top-end either, but a lovely half-way house. Naturally, the 1:87 scale difference is noticeable, especially when you look at the height of the trains. Throw in a prototypical lower platform out there too, and it looks a tad bonkers in the station. But, it's gorgeous - absolutely gorgeous.

I was sceptical how it'd cope on my layout given most British stuff I own throws itself off on points and canted rails. But no. It runs perfectly, straight out the box, no mods required. Even with rigid bar couplings, which have a high failure rate on my layout, are fine.

So what next? The Taurus locos are known for their sound. There's a variant of them with a single cab door on each side half way down the loco that sings. For whatever reason, they sing notes as the depart from a stand. Annoyingly, the version CD use doesn't have this, but still sounds good. It's on the list to get sound eventually I think... The driving trailer of the Railjet set needs a Plux16 chip which is on order. British trains haven't used this spec of Plux yet (only Plux22). The fewer pins allow for smaller chips, but obviously reduces the function ability. Perfect really given it's only a trailer vehicle.

The pantographs, all four of them, are beautiful, but too high, so will remain down for operating on the layout. That's good given I have no idea which I'd need for 25kV AC wires that don't exist...

Cheers!

PS - I'm also looking at a 'Goggles' diesel loco for the lolz. RIP my bank account 🙃

I've always thought these, and the Austrian version, were nice-looking trains, and would like to ride them one day. Don't blame you in the slightest for letting it run on your Welsh layout!

Cheers,

Absolutely! The OBB Railjet is gorgeous also! I've been on one of them and loved it.

A couple of little updates on the layout. Not really been up there due to the cold temperatures, but that's not stopped me.

Rusty Rails released some modern style platform end fences the other day. I had to order them as they were a perfect solution to my platform ends at Llanduno Junction. I've spent the past couple of days painting and assembling. They're gorgeous. Incredible detail given they're 3D printed (12k resolution printer apparently? whatever that means). I've sprayed them using a Tamiya grey, and they're not glued down yet, but stand up themselves!

It has reminded me that I need to finish putting the brick textures on the side! Looks naff from the end haha.

I've also concreted the hardstanding for the container storage yard. Another ScaleModelScenery set of textures!

What's that coming through the dusty Conwy arch? 👀

Yep! I've caved. I've got myself a Bachmann Kernow exclusive 158 in the outrageous Ginsters advertising colours.

My justification for this one is the fact they transfered to Arriva Trains Wales in 2004/05, and did work down the Coast back in the day. It'll eventually get upgraded speakers to improve the experience somewhat!

They're not cheap models, but I'll be honest and say I got it a bit cheaper given it was an 'unwanted duplicated present', and unopened! Result.

Conwy arch is a belter of a photo, absolutely superb, angle of the unit and composition with the arch, super.

Mind you, if it had cobwebs on it in real life size I would be avoiding the North Wales coast giant spiders.... 😆😉

Cheers and keep up the good work,

Many thanks! Haha well they're not that far from Wylva power station 😉

I went to Conwy last week to get some photos so I could maybe even make a start on the backscene building. Shall keep you posted!

After I sent the CMX round cleaning the mainline, I decided to give the Valley bombs a spin round.

20312 leading the train through Conwy on 6D43 from Crewe to Valley CS

Fully loaded and after a spin round the triangle, 20312 leads the train through Llandudno Junction on 6K41.

The more I take these photos of Junction, the more excited I am for getting the rest of the station building, and more importantly, the footbridge. It'd really complete the scene.

A small update - I received my YaMoRc YD9401 upgrade module to go into my Digikeijs DR5000 controller. This upgrades a number of features, some that I'll probably never find myself using, but apparently improves reliability in some aspects too. Anyway, it's something that the crowds are doing, and the part came into stock (and straight away out of stock 🤣) at DCC Automation, so I cracked on and upgraded.

It's a very easy upgrade with a couple of screws, swapped out the modules, then did some computery magic with the very easy-to-understand instructions and voila!

The Z21 apps on my phones work as they did before, so now to keep an eye out for any problems that I once had! Bosh.

Popped into my local model railway show this morning before work. That being the rather big one at York Racecourse. Before the main reason for me going, I came across a trade stand that happened to have two HOe Zillertalbahn coaches that my driving car was needing. They're certainly more prototypical, and suited, to the set than the two coaches I've already got.

The main event, however, other than drooling over Deadmans Lane, was to pay a visit to JSModels to collect a little something...

The Llandudno Junction booking office and waiting shelter is here! And what a beauty it is. Like the main shelter it's accurately modelled on the real thing, down to the bricked up door on the back of the office. Jonathan has done a gorgeous job of this, and I'm excited to get it painted up. The canopy simply slots over the top and through the roof like the real thing.

Bravo that man.

A splash of paint over the past 24hrs has got me to this stage! It's certainly coming on nicely. Plenty more work to do, but loving how it's looking.
