Whilst a volunteer at the MNR I did put forward the idea that for a realistic "1970s Gala" we just plonk a chalkboard outside Dereham station proclaiming no trains due to industrial action.

I feel this is in a similar vein to my idea for a London Underground “layout” with only surface buildings and no movement, because the trains are underground...
