Mr Grumpy
Sorry to go of piste Brian, I'm looking to build my loop round the garden in the Spring. I'm hoping to have a minimum radius of 11', but I may, just as you have, a 'tight' spot of just under 6' in one area. Do your DJH 47s cope with this radius? There isn't much room for those bogies to swing! Thanks, Richard.
brian daniels
I have had no problem with the swing on the 47 on 6' radius.
Mr Grumpy
Thanks Brian, That's a relief, I didn't fancy nibbling the ends off the bogies!
Popular Post brian daniels
Ran the TC for the first time round the garden with a JLTRT 33/1 at the rear. I did have to do a little mod to get those close gangways to work by cutting a bit of the lower gangway away to let the buckeye swing a bit as that seemed to be what the problem was as it ran ok after that. So after this test I will modify the couple of long gangways to short. Must clean the lens next time.
pwr
Cab side windows Brian? Paul R
brian daniels
Waiting for some etches to be made for the windows Paul. Just received the etches for the lifting lugs and bought some butterfly valves for the emergency brakes fron Pat Legg. Also got some brass to make the footboards under the doors. So plenty to be getting on with.
HealeyMills
Hi Brian, That TC and 33/1 looks good!! I few posts back I made a comment about your hiatus with the superglue sticking a little more than was intended on your BSK roof. Well, I commented as to whether you had used the Glue Buster to remove the roof.... erm... don't bother!!! Don't ask how I know this but I have discovered that the Glue Buster does not unglue resin from resin at ALL. It will unglue resin from metals no problem but definitely not resin from resin..... .... so ignore my comments (if you haven't already) Cheers Lee
CME and Bottlewasher
Sorry to go of piste Brian, I'm looking to build my loop round the garden in the Spring. brian daniels
I won't ask how you know that Lee but just to say it happens to us all sooner or later. I have been playing around with the gangways today and replaced the 4 springs I had over the 10ba bolts with a piece of foam centrally mounted and must say it moves a bit smoother now. Just need to mod the rest of them though. I will also need some more small brass strip to make the shorter gangways that look and work ok.
pwr
Great quality work Brian. Do you plan to follow up with a 4 Rep Paul R
brian daniels
No Paul, it will definatly be run on un-electrified territory. I am busy adding the door reinforcing strips, hinges and footboards so a lot of work but not much to show for it. Westdale speedo added on the driving cars and a couple of coaches have the lifting lugs added. Must take a picture I think!
brian daniels
Here are a couple of pictures of the gangways that I have sprung with foam. The front is a JLTRT MkI gangway with a bit cut out to narrow it slightly. Also soldered a piece of brass for the foam to push against rather that have it push against the plasticard on the end. Then add 4 10Ba bolts and a 3mm strip around the edge. 3mm strip with 1mm half round wire soldered to the end is glued onto the coach end and 4 holes drilled in the end. Two pieces of soft foam are inserted and then it's mounted with 4 washers and nuts. Also added a piece of black plasticard for them to slide over each other.

brian daniels
I have modified a set of JLTRT ETH jumper cables by removing bits and adding brackets and wires. I have also filed the spigots down a bit to fit fine rubber tubing over when I have glued them to the fronts. I have also finished adding all the footboards.
JeffP
At one time, working (ie: connectable) versions of these were available from MMP, are they still from PRMRP?
brian daniels
Finally got out and took some pictures of the latest work. ETH is now fitted on both ends. I have added the reservoir tanks and EP box under one DTSO. Also added the AWS magnet cover. I only had enough lifting lugs for two coaches but the rest are on order. I decided to do one DTSO with all the steps up the end which is how some ended up. The Emergency brake butterfly is from CPL but is not tall enough to go over the gangways! This gangway has to be replaced with a shorter one when I can get hold of some brass strip. And lastly I received my mini-me from Modelu today, a bit more resin in it than I thought there would be Must do another with my legs together as I don't think this will go under a desk but should be ok for 60/66 cabs. brian daniels
I managed to get myself into a Heljan Warship by taking a bit of my backside! You must remember that when scanned you are sit on a stool but when in a loco you are sit in a seat with a back so your stuff behind you hangs a bit different. Pete Harvey
Well that's one way to loose weight.
brian daniels
I have recently been painting a Heljan 42 and a 25 into BR Blue. I have smoothed down the front door on the 25 so it's more representative of a TOP's one. Unfortunatly I can't finish either as when I got round to putting the transfers on you always find one you are out of So I am waiting on the postman at the moment to finish these. As the 4TC is now a runner I have decided to put a sound chip in my JLTRT 33/1 that will power it. To save a bit of money I have removed a chip from a pre-production Falcon I did to re-use in the 33. The one thing with JLTRT loco's is that they are a bit narrow and with the central locating lugs can make fitting the large chips a bit difficult. As you can see though they do go in upright. I have screwed the chip to a Heljan Warship PCB support which insulates the rear nicely and then attached it with servo tape to a piece of brass screwed into the floor with a couple of self tappers. I have used a QSI 31mm speaker in a plasticard box which fits nicely on the floor. One thing though, I could not see an easy way to put the speaker upside down and get the sound out of the floor as the fuel tank and battery boxes with the air tanks inboard are hard up against the floor. Anyway I might change the speaker when I can hear what a 33 sounds like through it as at the moment this 33 has a Western/Falcon sound coming out of it Note, I have not worked out how to illuminate the headcodes on this just yet. Should be nice at the rear of the TC though. Edited February 28, 2016 by brian daniels
