cheesysmith
Would the ETH version have the vents? The photos I have seen show this entire roof panel, including the 2 raised panels with the vents, replaced with a flush roof.
brian daniels
Funny you should mention that as I just came to the same conclusion whilst looking at my peak pictures this morning. Will wait and get another Heljan blank and replace them. It was a bit of a "you stupid boy Pike" moment
Popular Post brian daniels
Bit of a Peak fest down my mates layout. These are 3 Heljan Peaks and one JLTRT 46.
brian daniels
Had a set of headcode etches laying about from a 37 project a while back and thought it would be rude not to use them. They fit the hole very well after removing the centre pillar. Had to use a small bit of filler where the pillar was removed. I removed the little grab handles whilst doing the work around the headcode recess. I think though the whole yellow end will need a re-paint now which will be fun masking over the nose side grills. I might do this as 45022.
clarky
I thought that you'd be the first to do the Class 46 nose Brian!! Looks great! G
RMweb Premium boxbrownie Posted May 7, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 7, 2017 That will look different.........but...........I hope it is not my eyes but is that headcode box just a little down on the left? Of course it could just be up a bit on the right
CME and Bottlewasher
Hi Brian, Great to chat yesterday and see some of your work/locos up close. David, I think the body is only resting on the chassis so is at an angle. ATVB CME.
RMweb Premium boxbrownie Posted May 8, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 8, 2017 Yes I noticed the body is leaning slightly............. I wish there would be some decent shows down here in the far flung places! Bristol the closest and still over three hours away...........makes for a long day. brian daniels
Your eyes do not deceive you chaps it got me worried when I saw it in the picture. I found the bogie support + piece is broken on one side, so much for the new packing! Howe's now have the spare spruces in now so it will get sorted. Don't ever worry about pointing things out as I might not have noticed things either.
brian daniels
Another little project I am working on is an upgrade to one of my Heljan 33's. I have had most of the castings for quite a while but just never got round to doing this work. Anyway I recieved the last couple I need from Laurie last week so have got on with it. Don't look much different in this shot I have to admit. New cast steps. Small grab handle added on solebar under door handrails. Moulded airlines removed and replaced with .7mm wire. Handrails replaced with lost wax castings. Frame added on end of battery box. Exhauster silencer added from solebar. Airline casting and .7mm wire added. Lost wax windscreen wipers to straighten the blade up and move it closer to the pillar. New separate speedo castings.

Superb! ATVB CME
brian daniels
I have done the Heljan 33 upgrade and am still faffing about slowly doing upgrades to 3 Heljan peaks which will all need weathering when finished. So I had a break this afternoon and put this transformer together from Andy Duncan. Will make a nice but heavy load when painted.
brian daniels
Painted the transformer. I think to fix it to the wagon it might have had some wooded chocks around the base and chains up to the lugs on the top? And put some weathering on this Heljan marker light 45.
RMweb Premium boxbrownie Posted May 15, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 15, 2017 The Peak looks a beast........it's all "bogie" under the sole plate.........looks good.
Softvark
I added some chains and wood to my 'transformer on a lowmac' - great minds think alike I couldn't put the transformer on the wood though as it was out of gauge. (Looks like the chains need tightening.)
raymw
If it were a new transformer, then most likely the porcelain insulators would be in a separate crate, and possibly the breathers capped off, and header tank a separate item, to be assembled on site. P.C.M
Hi Brian, Nice work on the class 33. is it possible to get the extra detail bits from JLTRT or were the bogie pipes etc from your spares box? Really like 45137 I think that and 45111 were the last to carry their nameplates. Cheers Peter.
RMweb Premium Hal Nail Posted May 18, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 18, 2017 is it possible to get the extra detail bits from JLTRT? I asked them about spare parts at the Reading show and they said just drop them an e mail and they would see what sprues are involved and quote. brian daniels
Thought it was about time I finished this POW Sides milk tanker. Had to do a little addition to the bottom of the access ladders as they are mounted slightly outside of the solebars so they pass over the diagonal support rods. The tank is to be painted white with an orange lower third as per St Ivel so this needs painting and masking before instalation. It does, only just, slip into place between the steps. Lord Flashheart
Looking good Brian,I've got one of these partly done as well, how did you find the fit/alignment of the tank ends to main barrel, mine took a lot of filling and sanding to get right.
