brian daniels
I have added the square section brass to the verandah supports on one end and made up a plough. I could not get the plough together in the middle without a gap and some strips of brass underneath to hold it all together. Some filler is needed to make good the join. I want to add some wood strip inside the verandah to represent the planking and do the same on the entrace doors hence why I have not fixed them in place yet.
CME and Bottlewasher
"Roger the cabin boy........." Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo. He was Cabin Boy Tom, iirc. We are all revealing our age now. IIRC he was yes - yet I think Seaman Stains is an urban myth too - never researched it in reality LOL!

Ian G
Brian Let me know which areas you would like photos of for planking as I have over 100 photos of the Quainton shark outside/inside/underneath and some from above. Ian G
brian daniels
Thanks Ian, I should have enough of one I photed to keep me going. I take it you built one of these to go with your Dogfish? If so stick a piccy up on here. I have just ordered some Slater's high vacuum pipes from their Southern PMV kits to add to this but they will be a couple of weeks until they cast them. I have finished the verandah square bar mods on both ends now and added a pair of Exactoscale screw couplings. I would like to solder the roof on so it's a nice strong fit as there is not a lot of meat to glue to but that would mean gluing the windows in now before I put the roof on and hoping that you do not push one through. I am going to change the solid brake stretchers for some spare JLTRT open style that I have spare from their MkI kit's I built.
CME and Bottlewasher
Hi Brian, I have sent you a PM - did you get it (I have had some PC and internet problems)? Can you have a look when you have a moment - thanks - sorry for the intrusion. Kindest, CME Edited October 8, 2015 by CME and Bottlewasher
Ian G
Brian I have no pictures, as I lost the shark in my house move last year, I still have not got round to getting another one. Ian G

brian daniels
Where does the time go! I have just been able to get a bit of modelling done again so finished the shark. Buffers and high vac pipes are from Slaters. I have added the inverted T bracing under the centre roof support. Plasticard strips added to represent the interior planking. JLTRT etched brake stretchers used. Vacuum cylinder moved to the other side of floor and moved to one side as in the original position an etched hole in a bufferbeam for the vac pipe would be in the wrong place. The vac pipe runs down from bufferbeam to bufferbeam on the opposite side to the vac cylinder. As I had to move the V hanger it was just as easy to swap it over.

brian daniels
The vac hoses are spring wire that actually took metal blackening. I have a couple more left in the spares box. The Slater's ones are a tad smaller diameter and don't take metal blackening stuff. I forgot to say that the couplings are Exactoscale ones that are sold by C&L these days I believe. I have actually answered the PM!
Kev_Lewis
Very nice modelling Brian. I forgot to say that the couplings are Exactoscale ones that are sold by C&L these days I believe. The Exactoscale screw couplings look good. I shall have to investigate them!

I have actually answered the PM! Hi Brian, Thanks. Yes I have got your PM - thanks, very much appreciated, guessed that you were busy, didnt know if the PM had sent properly as I did have some IT issues. Thanks for the info re the hoses too - I have found that wound guitar strings seem to take blackening too and look quite nice if melded to lost wax brass stand-pipes etc. The Shark really does look great and your added details and fettling look a treat too - cant wait to see it painted and weathered. brian daniels
I have put the basic bits together on this PRMRP Sealion so have a running model now but I want to add a bit of the pipework that's on the ends so it might take a while to get much more done to it. I also want to change those bogies as the real ones are a bit different. I have changed the buffers but can't remember who's they are, old age creeping up I'm afraid. Ian G
I looked at mine some time ago, the only way i thought to improve them is with an etch add on kit, then you can have an articulated bogie, with possible rotating bearings. cut out the spring detail or 3D the bogie side frame and etch the rest. Your thoughts on this Pete Harvey? Ian G
Pete Harvey
Those bogies aren't the best and I know Brian has an alternative in mind but that is up to Brian to tell you about. Pete
jim.snowdon
M&M do what appears to be a quite respectable set of these cast bogies for their Bogie Bolster E kit. Jim

brian daniels
Be patient chaps something is in the pipeline with the bogies. Just lettered and varnished the Shark. Off to the Midland Railway Centre on Sunday to look over another project for the future to see how much work will be involved in a conversion job. What's the betting I'll get soaked?
