CME and Bottlewasher
Not the heater matrix gone then? Try tasting the wet...if it's sweet, it's your heater matrix. No need thanks Jeff, its screen-wash, I watched the washer-bottle empty itself as it syphoned itself empty via the carpets and the sill water vents - sadly the tubing should have been more robust in the sills (and wheel-arch) and call me old fashioned but they shuda used something that would last the life of the car, but, so I understand, this par for the course with lots of modern car/brands. BTW I try not to drink ethylene glycol if I can help it Edited January 7, 2015 by CME and Bottlewasher
JeffP
Had similar on my Xantia...I replaced the whole lot with new, re-routed to make it easier to see/get at. Sorry for the off-topic.
brian daniels
Getting back to railways I have been weathering my MTH gondolas and my Appleby IGA that nicely goes with my Euro train. The DBS gondola has got Pete Harveys bogies under it from his KFA kit. I sprayed the bodies with dirt and then wiped it off and added some weathering powders on the bogies. I picked out the brake blocks in rust just to show up a bit of the details under there. Edited January 8, 2015 by brian daniels
ianwales
Hi Brian Quick question, have you built a DJH 03 shunter kit, if so what's your opinion of it as a first kit for a novice in 7mm? Ian
brian daniels
Hi Ian Of coarse I have built one https://www.flickr.com/photos/brianews/sets/72157626639577085/ Link to pictures of it on my Flickr site. I found it a good kit to build. Everything is in the box which is good for a beginner.
JeffP
There was a build somewhere on the web by Christian Cresswell. It seemed to go together very well. The kit comes with wheels, but I THINK Slaters have just released the proper wheels for both the BR 03 and Drewry 04 shunters.

Popular Post brian daniels
Finished! Well apart from one Heljan loco coupling one end when I can get hold of one. I am using these as they are in the style of UIC couplings and they are long which you need with Markits buffers. Those roof lights were a bit of a pain to insert. They are the supplied tracing paper which look ok but when Kristal Klear touched it it got a bit of a kink in it with the water content I think. Anyway they have sort of flattened out ok and now the glue has dried off it does not show too much. Anyway it should be weathered with lots of browns and blacks especially on the ends. I was wondering if the bufferbeam would be black or blue but I can't find a picture of one with a colour other than crud colour! I changed the Motorail and arrow Methfix transfer for Pressfix ones as the Methfix ones had a fare bit of carrier film with it which did not look very nice, it might have blended in with the varnishing but I thought I would not take the chance seeing as I had the Pressfix transfers. I noted from Kier Hardey's web site that the pictures of this one had two OHL flashes on one end and one on the other hence why I did this on my model. White lining is HMRS Pressfix.

ozzyo
Nice job Brian, found this on the web is it any use? Looks like the buffer bodies could be blue, OzzyO. PS. I think that the chalk board and hand brake were at the R/H end on both sides.
BR_Blue_1986
I feel your pain Brian, I also had to bidge a couple of bogie details (brake gear and the White metal brake linkage supports to enamel my Heljan 47 to go round corners. Only once I had assembled everything did I realise. At least it won't be a 47 for much longer .

Pugsley
I'd hazard a guess at a 57.

37114
Hi Brian, Interesting that you have painted the well black on the TCV, I have seen models done in both blue and black but have never been sure which is correct as the prototype was never cleaned that much so they are dirt in most pictures I have seen. Have you managed to locate a conclusive prototype picture to work from? I know when they were Maroon the well was black.
brian daniels
I have not found a clean picture of the car carriers either Rob. As you say it will be weathered so it won't really mater.
RMweb Premium keefer Posted January 22, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 22, 2015 i remembered there'd been at least one thread on the TCVs before: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/39497-newton-chambers-car-carriers/ Started by your good self Brian, while you were looking for maroon ones, but blue/grey ones discussed too - as has been said, a definitive pic of the well in b/g days hasn't been found yet. Quoting Swindon123 (in post #9 of above thread): "Never saw one clean enough to tell what colour the well was in blue livery. Have gone back thru my photo's ( the ones on "emgauge70") [kier hardie's site] and some had blue solebars, what short length there was above the bogies, but the well never got cleaned so its anyones guess." Question answered; the well was blue, there is a picture of an ex works one on page 21 of the Aberdeen Kirkhill thread. It appears the roof was blue too!
ozzyo
To save people searching for the thread here are the photos, used only to illustrate the point and the copy rite remands with the owner. In the second photo you can just make out the two positions of the roof lights. Both photos were taken in 1967 at Perth. OzzyO.
F-UnitMad
Those TCVs look to me for all the world like they've been scratchbuilt by someone who just couldn't be @rsed to cut out all the windows....
BR_Blue_1986
Alas here is the 57, I'm not too happy with the dellners so I have ordered a second set that I will place higher up and recess more. At least it vaguely looks like a 57, I'm also not too happy with the grille fit, but it should do, again, these can always be re done later. This is my first conversion as I'm used to Waterman kits.
