RMweb Gold TravisM Posted July 6, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 6, 2019 I know they are few and far between but are there any remaining LMS semaphore signals remaining in 2019, especially within the old Midland Railway boundary?
great central
Not being an expert on signal types I can offer the Leicester to Peterborough line as a good place to look, mostly semaphores, notably with the sole lower quadrant example at Ketton. A few in the Creswell area on the Robin hood line, Derby-Crewe also has semaphores between Tutbury and Stoke on Trent. The Hope Valley route and Peterborough to Ely are other possibilities. RMweb Premium uax6 Posted July 7, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 7, 2019 Peterborough to Ely are, of course, the Eastern region version of the BR tubular post LMS signals. They differ in details to the pure LMS versions. There are semaphores at Whittlesea and Manea, but these signals have a very short life span left, but are to be directly replaced with 'lightweight' semaphores in life extensioning works.... RMweb Gold TheSignalEngineer Posted July 7, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 7, 2019 The Buxton line still has some. There's a nice distant just north of Whaley Bridge visible under the A6 bridge going north. 1 1
RMweb Premium uax6 Posted July 7, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 7, 2019 I would think the Cumbrian Coast line and the Settle Carlisle and the Hope Valley are probably the biggest concentration of LMS signals these days. Andy G
RMweb Premium Compound2632 Posted July 7, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 7, 2019 Settle Junction's signals are nicely visible from the A65. Is this the last mechanically-signalled double junction?
RMweb Premium 31A Posted July 7, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 7, 2019 And not far from there, quite a few in the Hellifield station area. 1
rogerzilla
There's one on my garage wall, but that probably doesn't count. 1
