Had a great day out on the HST Farewell Tour, and it was made a bit more special by avoiding Azumas to return to Leeds behind a 91, that being 91109 Sir Bobby Robson / 82225.

Signs of the times at Newcastle on 30th November 2019...

The bottom sign is now superfluous as far as LNER are concerned - how long before the top one is also redundant?

That's 91121 beyond, waiting to leave at the rear of a southbound train.

Is it superfluous though? Cross country still operate HSTs north of York. I know their sets are shorter though so would they use a different stop board?

Hmm ... looks like I might have jumped the gun a bit, although it's been a while since I saw a CC HST that far north. I have amended my original post.

It looks like there may be a FO working south through Newcastle in daylight, plus a few other early (too early for me!) morning workings. Otherwise during the hours of darkness. (Info from a thread on the RailUKforums)

Thanks for the correction.

Cheers

Trevor

I was told late last year by a LNER driver that three more Class 91’s and MkIV sets are due to go this month but there seems to be no sign of them leaving just yet.

Looks like the 91s will be with LNER a bit longer -

https://mobile.twitter.com/LNER/status/1222540451988766721

They are keeping some 225 sets on until December 2021 to help with the introduction of their new timetable then, pending introduction of their additional order of Class 80x for the Edinburgh fast services.

Talk on WNXX that this involves up to 15 sets and is for 3 years.

suggestion is they will be kept on Leeds diagrams but also a few as hot spares.

I'd be happy with this! West Yorkshire rovers will be used if this is the case.

Yes, it was 5Z19 hauled by GBRf 66756 'Royal Corps of Signals taking former LNER Mark 4s and DVTs to Widnes.

Photos of the working are in this post -

I haven't checked the vehicle numbers, but my understanding was the rakes were going to consist of:

DVT-POD-SV-TO-TOD-TOE   (Although the position of the TOD may differ)

Basically the TfW formation but with the addition of a TOD.

suggestions that GC need 5 sets. One set currently at WB for training plus these two going to Widnes for refurbishment / repaint(?) so 2 more needed.

Another set moved today as 5Z18, 08.59 Doncaster Works Wagn Shops to Crewe CS, taken by GBRf 66763 'Severn Valley Railway'.  I'm assuming for storage at Crewe before onward movement at a date to be arranged to Widnes and refurb/repaint for GC.

I believe that this is stored 91108 pictured inside the boundary fence of Wabtech Doncaster yesterday (Monday 3rd February), my picture taken using my iPhone. Notice the missing pantograph, cab nose section and removal of all identifiable numbers.

I am led to believe that this is due to be scrapped. Informed by ground shunting staff who was out with one of the Wabtech Class 08’s.

Spent some time at Doncaster and York on Saturday, 1st February. The lighting wasn't too great so I've messed around with a couple of the images.

IMG_20200206_191034.jpg.cfdb67a2b3664f4f1c30d7f8b7aca23a.jpg

91102 City of York. Despite several rumours that it was no longer with LNER, as of Saturday it definitely was!

IMG_20200206_191056.jpg.5a84ad9f8782cf8142dadce1db36a2ab.jpg

Following on from recent posts in this thread, what remains of 91108. The most noticeable recent piece to be removed is the pantograph.

... and again at York.

I was going to spend a bit of time on York, however after just sitting down on platform three, 91110 came into the station. To others it might not be significant, however it has always been my favourite loco and I've never had a chance to get it for haulage whilst in it's BBMF livery. A quick sprint down the station solved that issue, the day being worth it to me just for that!

...and Doncaster. Aside from it being my favourite, the plaque demonstrates the reason why I feel this loco should be preserved.

91104. Another 91 which was rumoured to not be in ECML service anymore. These seem to have remained in service in place of 91122 and 91128, which have recently been debranded and moved to Leicester.

Plenty of Hitatchi units running about now, LNER, Hull Trains and TPE variants were seen on Saturday. First time I've been since the HSTs have finished, so it was a major disappointment when the Aberdeen/Inverness trains come through the middle and you can't hear them from under Hexthorpe bridge! Either way still nice to see plenty of 91s about, for now.
